I don't think I ever mentioned that we have a real-life "author" in the family. She's just a wonderful person, sharp mind, and I thought you might like to "meet" her. I'll add other columns as they come up, but in honor of her birthday...

I always thought it was odd to hear flat out declarations that there can be no life on other planets in the absence of water. How egocentric! So you're saying that life can only exist if it's precisely like us?

Really?

That's the feeling I'm getting right now in the woe-is-us, hand-wringing sob-fest about whether life and our democracy can survive the death of some newspapers.

I echo FF's "awesome" ~ often I get a sense from someone's words that I would "connect" with them in real life ~ Char is on that list for me ~ I think this belongs on the General board, Chaos ~ with your permission, I'd like to move the thread there [intact] ~
