GW tapped into the evangelical fundamentalists yrs ago--he talked the talk, allegedly walked the walk...a powerful voting bloc, the religious right had its own political language with certain "keywords"--prayer in schools, right to life, born again, moral integrity, etc.  All good sounding terms; when a political candidate (or movement) gives homage to these terms, the religious right flocks to that candidate or movement,  with mindless abandon.  Nevermind the lawless spirit demonstrated by the candidate or movement,  the person endorsed by the religious right spoke the talk, (never mind the walk) and they flock to such a person or movement mindlessly.  The Tea Party will no doubt run amuck with these religious bigots, who will persuade the mainstream of this party to go repug come election time....Sad...while not a political party per se, they could influence the gov't on both sides if they could shake loose the stranglehold the religious right will put on them.  They don't have to come up with solutions:  that is incumbent on the elected officials.  All the tea baggers need to do is express discontent with how things are going now and require gov't to be accountable....dems and repugs.

What really kills me about that list is how many of the items just boil down to racism and other forms of bigotry, really, or are at least partially fueled by it.

Special interests need to be neutralized -- ie, people of colour, gays, women, anyone who isn't a white male boomer....

Political office available for average citizens -- ok, this one isn't racist, just pro ignorance. We want politicians that don't threaten us--so please don't elect anyone who can speak in complete sentences.

Illegal aliens are illegal -- ie., please don't water down our gene pool with darker skin. We'll happily look the other way at aliens from sweden...

Pro domestic labour is indespensable-- 'cuz we don't want those wimmin takin our jobs, ya know....

Stronger military is essential -- 'cuz we're the best, and might makes right. most of those bad old nations out there are full of coloreds anyway, and maybe french people.

I won't touch the income tax and balanced budget stuff, other than to say that apparently ignorant rednecks don't know which side of the bread their butter is on. I think this has always been true of American politics. It's why the conservatives have always been so easily manipulated by big business and big money.
