I admittedly know nothing about skiing.  I also never heard of Lindsey Vonn before seeing a shot of her Sports Illustrated cover.  Is the cover provocative?  Is she on the cover because she's a great athlete or because she's beautiful?  Does a male athlete have to be physically attractive to be on the cover?

I heard yesterday that she has a deep bruise on her shin and may not even race.  I feel sorry for athletes and injuries at the Olympics because it's an every four years event.  I am excited for and love the Olympics. This is the first year I don't know our Olympic figure skating team.  I'll have to look it up.

That "pose" is a very typical skiing stance used to gain speed or to maintain speed over more level areas of a run.

I was just looking at the German competition and thought about the controversy with Lindsey's cover on SI.

I heard one of the sportscasters in Vancouver for the Olympics say last night that Lindsey is one of the toughest athletes in recent memory ~ she apparently has skied with injury numerous times ~ and Lindsey herself said when she skies she skies to win ~ personally, I don't find anything erotic about that pose ~ and while I agree with Jab's comment about Americans thinking sex 24/7, take a look at his own post #5 ~

I don't think it's the problem.  There should be more covers of female athletes.  They said 4 percent.  They've got the stupid swimsuit models on the cover and they are NOT athletes.  There is a problem with expecting the athletes to look like the swimsuit models instead of valuing them for their athletic prowess.

Truthfully, I think they do it to the men, too.  You see loads of sexualized pictures of David Beckham etc and no one seems to fuss about that.  It used to be something of a double standard, but the guys seem to be sex objects now, also.

I agree! When I lived in Europe as a child there were TV shows that had the women topless and nobody really gave it a second thought, except us Americans. We are way too hung up on sex rather than just realizing its a part of life.
