Actor Shelley Malil gets life in prison

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- A San Diego judge sentenced actor Shelley Malil to life in prison Thursday for stabbing his ex-girlfriend Kendra Beebe more than 20 times, officials said.

Malil, 45, is best known for his work in the big-screen comedy "The 40-Year-Old Virgin."

He was convicted in September of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. He will be eligible for parole in 12 years, E! News said.

"I want to do whatever I need to do to make sure I make right from the wrong that I did," E! quoted Malil as saying in court.
