So far we've had two blackouts.

Sounds like you need a big diesel generator.

Next summer's project, Sid.
I want to wire it into the system with a timer for automatic start-up if the power's off for more than 5 minutes.
5,000 W is enough for a couple of lights and to run the furnace/blower.

Beano is a natural enzyme that prevents gas.

The farts would have been blown away.

Last week we had hurricane force winds on the Bay.

Yeah I know. I guess that's the small price you pay for living in one of the most beautiful parts of the country.Image  Image

Poor Oskar.  Stay put, and I'll come pick you up.  It will only take me a minute to start my car....

I remember seeing cars like that in the big ice storm back in the late 90's. I don't think people saw their cars until the following spring.

Sid, I cheated.  That picture's actually from Switzerland.  But we have been dumped on pretty thoroughly lately, and that does remind me of a chunk of the Toronto beach just below High Park.

Now calm down....I promise I won't sully your reputation.

In all honesty, you Easterners stay safe out there, you hear?

Yaawwwwwn!  It's a beautiful day here in Lotusland.  I can't decide whether to go to the office or just laze about on the beach.

Some parts of the Annapolis River are very close to flooding.

Yikes oskar. I made light of your weather. Sorry. I know how scary that crap can be. One of the things I do not miss from Alabama is the weather. Tornadoes, wind, torrential rain, flooding in spring and fall. I spent both of those seasons always on alert, with the weather radio on and emergency supplies at the ready. It's not a nice feeling. Stay safe and on high ground.

Though we're about 100m from the river. We should be ok where we are since the banks are fairly high, but upriver/downriver from us there's about a foot to go before the flooding starts.

Sounds nasty... I hope it ends soon. Last I heard it was still raging out there.

Winds have died down quite a bit as well as the rain... at least they have around here.
Our yard is like a bog.

12 hours without power.
After raising unholy hell with Nova Scotia Power (a privatized utility) we had power back within 1/2 hour.
Guess somebody has to be the squeaky hinge.

I couldn't go 12 hours without power. My place uses electric heat exclusively.

We have oil but the furnace doesn't work without power.
Plus, our house (200 years old) doesn't have perimeter drainage so we need the sump pumps at all times. No power = flooded basement.
