I got a POLITICO 'breaking news' email yesterday that announced Danny Davis was dropping out of the Chicago mayoral race and was supporting Carol Mosley Braun's candidacy ~ Rev Meeks [pastor of a mega southside congregation, activist, and perennial candidate] dropped out a week or so ago, and started clamoring that other long-shot black candidates should drop out as well so that there was 'unity' behind one candidate ~ there is speculation that Davis was not doing well in fund-raising and wanted to protect his congressional seat ~

This is BIG news here because Davis is well-known and well-liked here ~ if memory serves, there are a couple more long-shot black candidates [who are expected to drop out of the race], two Hispanics [neither of which has strong support], Braun, and Rahm Emanuel ~ while I had already decided to support Rahm after reading his platform [and especially his education plan], I think Davis had a FAR better chance of being elected than Braun does, and IMO was the real significant opposition for Rahm to face ~

We'll see ~

Don't you Americans ever get tired of these never-ending elections?

Elections are big business in the U.S., Sid.
We're talking billions.
Regulate all that election spending rationally and the U.S. GDP tanks.

There are elections at each level of government, for local, state and federal offices.  It's a necessary part of a republic in which the citizens elect their representatives.

Fancy that.
It happens in nations that aren't republics as well.
