And finally: It may be political season in Iowa, but in one small town, the election is just a week away and no one is running. The ballot for New Liberty's upcoming elections lists no names for mayor or city council, but residents say that's fine as everyone knows each other and will just write somebody in.

The epitome of real democracy?

Senate Republicans shot down another critical piece of President Obama's jobs bill yesterday, refusing to pass a measure to spend $50 billion on highway, rail, transit and airport improvements, and another $10 billion on an infrastructure bank. Democrats have been trying to advance the bill piece by piece since the Senate blocked the entire package last month. Republicans also defeated a measure to provide $35 billion in aid to states to hire teachers and first responders.

Hence the question in this other thread: https://voicesorchoices.com/viewtopic.php?t=8910/Polling-the-sabotage-question

Republicans on the deficit super committee may consider raising revenue by limiting tax breaks for the rich — a major concession for Democrats who have long insisted that new revenue must be part of the deal. Republicans said they are willing to limit tax deductions that benefit the wealthiest Americans, like breaks on mortgages for second homes, if there is a permanent reduction in tax rates.

Democrats would be FOOLS to fall for this one!

Indeed.
They're getting suckered - again. As soon as they'd "agree" the goal posts would be moved - again.

Only fools would be thinking about permanent tax cuts.

A judge issued a Temporary Restraining Order this morning allowing protesters to return to Zuccotti Park after police evicted them in a midnight raid, but Mayor Michael Bloomberg appears to be ignoring the court order. At a press conference this morning, Bloomberg defended the move, saying that “the final decision to act was mine.â€

And finally: Call it Karma: Steven J. Baum P.C, a New York foreclosure mill law firm that earlier this year had its employees dress as homeless people during Halloween, is closing down The firm is also reportedly under investigation by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

Well... I guess those employees are going to have to get their costumes out of the closet because they're going to need them. But I doubt they'll be laughing too much when they have to wear them.

A new Congressional Budget Office analysis estimates that the stimulus package created up to 2.4 million jobs in the third quarter of 2011. The analysis also concluded that 3.3 million jobs were added by the package in 2010.

Despite the fact that Tuesday's GOP debate was held in Washington, D.C., a city with a large African-American population, the crowd was predominantly white. The audience was made up of guests of conservative think tanks the Heritage Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute, which co-sponsored the debate with CNN.

President Ali Abdullah Saleh plans to sign a deal today in Saudi Arabia that could end of his 33-year rule of Yemen. The country has faced a sustained protest movement against Saleh as part of the Arab Spring uprisings. The vice president will step in temporarily until an election can be held and transitional government formed.

Occupy marchers who started in New York two weeks ago arrived in D.C. yesterday after a 230-mile journey. The marchers set out from Zuccotti Park to arrive in D.C. by Nov. 23, the official deadline of the congressional super committee that failed to reach a deficit agreement on Monday.

Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) “said the congressional supercommittee's failure Monday to come to an agreement on spending reforms was ‘good news' because it will help to end the Bush-era tax cuts and give Democrats more bargaining power in budget negotiations.â€

The Dems have most recently been holding the line, Sid ~ will it last? ~ who knows? ~ but I'm thinking they've turned a corner ~ and the GOP/TP seems to be lending a helping hand by getting so tangled up in their own games ~
