By the time the election rolls around, people will automatically equate them with stupidity.

You're way too optimistic. About half the voters will equate Obama with huge tax increases, fault him for every single job loss due to an enormous increase of regulations for wealthy job creators, and at least a gazillion more in debt. Any of the right wing candidates, except that Mormon, will be the saviour and stop the commies from taking over Iowa.
