The people in Cincinatti Arkansas thought they were....one young couple (a nurse I know) stood in their hallway, their arms wrapped around each other, with their 4 mo. old daughter sandwiched between them when the tornado struck their home...the roof went, the walls of their home blew away, and when it was all over, all that stood of their home was the hallway that they were standing in. Grateful to be alive, they told friends that they had insurance and that all that was lost was after all "just stuff" and they would rebuild and restart their lives...their furniture, their clothing (with the exception of the wet clothing they were wearing) was unsalvageable, crusted with rock and sand and wood splinters, etc. They bravely told friends "Don't worry: we have insurance; we're grateful to be alive!'
Imagine their shock when they were informed by the insurance company that tornado destruction is a natural disaster and by insurance rules the company did not have to settle with them for a year...and would not be settling for a year. They were also informed by said company (a large company here in Arkansas that has thousands of members) that it would most likely be two years before any action would be taken towards coverage of rebuilding their home...
As if losing everything wasn't enough, to be kicked in the teeth by your insurer....!
