I waited a while to post this as I didn't want to offend anyone. I am thrilled that she is making such a rapid recovery, but I do wonder how many "common people" would have the same chance.
After the shooting, the flew in two well known neurosurgeons/neurologists who were experts in this type of injury. One of them, from what I recall, was on his way to Iraq. They turned the plane around to bring him in for her.

How many of us would get this sort of treatment? None. This, in my mind, highlights the difference between the "haves" and "have nots" to a tee. It shows the gaps between the elite and the rest of us. Don't get me wrong, I think she deserves the best treatment............but then, so do we all.

*steps down from soapbox*

I know exactly what you mean, roseanne.

Any "common" victim of the same injury would clearly not get the same level of care.

I hadn't heard/read that, roseanne ~ do you have any kind of source/cite for that info? ~ I only ask because one of the lead docs, I think the chief of ER services, did earn his reputation in Iraq ~

FTR, I think it was oskar who asked last week if others would get the same level of care ~ I've been thinking about that since he asked ~ I'm not surprised that the government would go to extraordinary lengths for a congresswoman [who happens to also be the wife of an astronaut] who is the victim of an assassination attempt ~ extraordinary circumstances ~ but ... the question is still nagging on me ~

sooz, let me look when I have time. I couldn't find it yesterday, but I am certain I read that the day of or the day after the shooting.

Or after the acute and stabilization phase what happens to the uninsured or underinsured when it comes to the need for rehab and rehab to start right away for the best chance for a maximum functional outcome.

Ok sooz, I looked and looked and could not find anything. I am 100% certain that the article I read said that one of the doctors was flying somewher  and they turned the plane around to bring him in for her. It was a raw story on the day of or the day after the shooting that I read it. Perhaps they killed they story because of the political ramifications amidst the HC bill debate. Wish I had saved the link, but I didn't think it would be hard to find.

The two primary physicians, Dr. Rhee and Dr. Lemole, are both full-time employees of the UA Medical Center in Tucson. Neither was on a plane to Iraq that was turned around, although Dr. Rhee had served in Iraq previously.

gop, one of them was on a plane going somewhere and they turned around to bring him back for her. I must have gotten him serving in Iraq mixed up in the story. As I said, it was a short blurb on a news site the day of or day after. Maybe they got it wrong, but I know what I read. tyvm.

If it's true, you'll be able to post a link to an article confirming it.  tyvm.

Bith Rhee and Lemole appeared at a press conference within a short time of the shooting.  Which doctor are you talking about?
