LOL, oskar ~ who says you aren't helpful? ~ Image

I'm very close to needing a new dishwasher, and I've decided the double drawer will serve my purposes better than a traditional dishwasher ~ I have always had Kitchenaid dishwashers, mostly because my dad [who was a major appliance manufacturer's rep] always said it was the best made and most reliable ~ he was right ~ my current Kitchenaid is @18 years old and has never needed service of any kind ~ but poor thing is tired ~ LOL ~ it will cost me at least a couple hundred bucks to get my current dw reconditioned ~ so it makes more sense to me to spend more and get a new, state-of-the-art, more energy efficient model ~ while most Kitchaid dishwashers get the highest rating, for some reason the double drawer model does not ~ friends of mine have the Fisher Paykel [not sure that's the right spelling] and they love it ~ so I'm curious what kind of rating Consumer Reports gives the Fisher Paykel double drawer ~ but I don't want to pay $26 for an online subscription for one item ~ yes, I'm cheap about strange things ~ Image

Mac, when you have a few minutes [yes, I know you're kinda buried right now], could you please check for the Fisher Paykel double drawer dishwasher rating? ~ and as long as you're amenable to doing that, could you also double-check the rating on the Kitchenaid double drawer?

Har har har, Oskar. Image

Our new dishwasher sucks, but it's not a double drawer, so you're safe.

Is it a Kitchenaid or a Fisher Paykel, Chaos? ~ my sister bought a Whirlpool, instead of a Kitchenaid, a couple of years ago to save a couple hundred bucks ~ and has been sorry since the day it was installed ~

Your dishwasher may not be tired - it may be because dishwasher detergent no longer contains phosphates so minerals build up on vital components. There are newer detergents that dissolve mineral buildup in the washer - or - you can run a few empty loads with CLR - then vinegar - then no additives to the water. This will clean up the insides of the jets and increase the water pressure in the dishwasher.

Thanks, Sid ~ I use Cascade, which allegedly dissolves mineral buildup ~ and I've done the vinegar loads, without noticeable results ~ but I have not used CLR, and I do have CLR in the house ~ so I'll try that too ~ but the energy and annual cost savings are important to me too ~ the new models use a fraction of the energy my current dw uses ~ while a new dw wasn't on my list until recently, I think 18+ years is a respectable appliance life-time ~

Thanks very much, roseanne ~ I skimmed some of the comments and will spend time reading more closely tomorrow ~ seems to me people either love the double drawer or hate it ~ while it seemed the 'hate' outnumbered the 'love' in your linked article, it's likely that those having problems are more likely to respond ~ I am very close with my friends who have the Fisher Paykel double drawer and I trust them ~ they've had it about 3 years and really do love it ~ have had no problems, no service calls ~ I obviously need to do more research before I make any decision ~

I'd go for a full sized that can do partial loads. You get the advantage of being able to do smaller loads without the headaches the double drawer can potentially present.
