Every Veterans' and Memorial Day leaves me with mixed emotions ~ I hate war ~ but I feel awe, pride, deep
gratitude and respect for the courage and dedication and selflessness and personal sacrifices of our generational military troops ~ and great sadness for the countless lives lost or changed forever ~

To all who have served and are serving today, thank you from my heart ~ Image ~ Love, Sooz

Just came home from the services at the Nat'l Cemetery nearby. Was nice to be able to mingle and thank some vets in person!

Kiddo and the school band were there to play-all volunteers since there's no school today. They did a great job despite the cold and wind, and the crowd was very appreciative of their efforts.

One of the guest speakers on the schedule wasn't there because he was called to duty again a few weeks ago. His wife gave a very moving speech that had us all a little choked up.

What a great experience to share, Chaos ~ and Kiddo is a very special Kiddo to volunteer!

I'm feeling a bit "raw" on today's Veterans' Day ~ I learned on Tuesday that the fiance of a good friend's daughter [who I've watched grow up] was killed in Afghanistan last weekend ~ Nick was 25, and only in Afghanistan for 5 weeks ~ obviously, Katie and her family/friends are devastated ~ while I very much respect and appreciate our troops' dedication and commitment, I want all troops home NOW!

To all our veterans. Thank you for your service. To all the spouses, parents and children of those now serving and to all those who lost loved ones, thank you for your sacrifices. To those who paid the ultimate price, rest in peace. Image

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Floating down through the clouds
Memories come rushing up to meet me now.
But in the space between the heavens
and the corner of some foreign field
I had a dream.
I had a dream.
Good-bye macs,
Good-bye Ma.
After the service when you're walking slowly to the car
And the silver in her hair shines in the cold November air
You hear the tolling bell
And touch the silk in your lapel
And as the tear drops rise to meet the comfort of the band
You take her frail hand
And hold on to the dream.
A place to stay
"Oi! A real one ..."
Enough to eat
Somewhere old heroes shuffle safely down the street
Where you can speak out loud
About your doubts and fears
And what's more no-one ever disappears
You never hear their standard issue kicking in your door.
You can relax on both sides of the tracks
And maniacs don't blow holes in bandsmen by remote control
And everyone has recourse to the law
And no-one kills the children anymore.
And no one kills the children anymore.

Night after night
Going round and round my brain
His dream is driving me insane.
In the corner of some foreign field
The gunner sleeps tonight.
What's done is done.
We cannot just write off his final scene.
Take heed of the dream.
Take heed.

The gunners dream Lyrics
Artist(Band):Pink Floyd[/b]
