Just want you to avoid these items, or guard them closely, lol. BTW, the entire list includes Jameson at number 2 (don't blame themImage) and iPhone4 at number 4. A good grilled Filet and Jameson on the rocks! A festive holiday meal. Image

What shoplifters are taking these holidays

Msnbc.com staff

If it is the season to give, it may also be the season to take. As in shoplift.

As shoppers crowd the malls supermarkets and liquor stores (stay with us on this), the tarde publication Adweek has some distressing stats on the crime and a sometimes surprising list of what gets taken the most.

The economy doesn't help.

"The economic environment has led to stealing for need-based purposes," Johnny Custer, director of field operations for Merchant Analytic Solutions, told AdWeek.

"Most shoplifters simply succumb to temptation," he said. "But add a sense of desperation because of the economy and holiday pressures, and you have the recipe for theft soup."

A couple of the stats:

  • Shoplifting is up 6 percent compared to 2010
  • Three-quarters of shoplifters are adults, and most of them have jobs.

A few of the items on the most-shoplifted list:

  • Filet Mignon
  • Let's Rock Elmo
  • Electric toothbrushes
  • Axe deodorants and body washes (ewwwwwww)

A long time ago some shoplifters walked out of The Bay in downtown Calgary with a canoe.

I kid you not.

A canoe in Calgary?
That's like stealing skis in Saudi Arabia.

Edit: I was just advised by the resident genius that there's a river in Calgary. My bad.

A canoe in Calgary.... they do have the Bow river and the Elbow river running through the city. Kananaskis Country and Banff National Park are only 80 - 120 km away. I think the thieves worked on the principle of incredulity. Afterall, who would steal a canoe in broad daylight in front of everyone? They can't possibly be stealing it, right? As it turns out, guile trumps preconception.

LMAO! Image Wise genius. Wise man to listen to genius.

Too funny Sid. Yep, who would think someone walking out with a canoe is stealing it? After all, it's not like they can shove it in a shopping bag.

Years ago there was a couple in Alabama who would steal portable TV's. The woman was obese and she would waddle them out between her legs under a mumu type dress.Image Finally got caught on security cameras.

Gotta love the moxie of some people, even if you dislike what they are doing, eh?

Not a moo-moo dress?
A TV between her legs? Did she spend her life riding elephants?

Why?  It doesn't work.  I tried it and didn't get a stampede.  After a week all I got was two little old ladies at my door trying to sell me Watchtower magazines.  The cats liked it though.

I'm still wondering how you shoplift filet mignon.

Well, jim, at least the cats liked it.

having the wife come completely unglued at them one day did it for us.

Another great benefit of having a 24/7/365 doorman!
