Semi-useless: Electric can openers. The can opener part goes to hell in a hurry but the knife sharpener lasts forever.

Let me guess: you have an electric can opener that doesn't open cans but still sharpens knives ~ yes? ~ LOL! ~ the best can opener, bar none, is the Swing-Away manual ~ I bet I've had mine for at least 25 years ~ but, granted, I don't use much canned foods ~ :b

Several of different brands... and all have the same problem.
No more! We're back to our regular el-cheapo hand can opener. Was bought for a couple of dollars years ago.

I have a Swing-Away that's just about as old as yours, Sooz. I swear by it. If I want a knife sharpened, I have a wet/oil stone and a honing rod to do that job. Old school stuff.

Easy fix. Drive a knife through the top of the can and then cut the top off. Use sharpener to resharpen knife. Voila! Can opener still works.

I've got a little all metal hand can opener that has got to be at least fifteen years old and still works like a darn.

we have a hand held. when that doesn't work, or we can't find it, we beat cans against rocks. :b

That's how you do laundry.
Now we know your cans are clean. ;)
