After years of suffering with the burning of a dipilatory, I did some resarch. It's amazing to find out that a lot of models and even Marilyn Monroe shave(d) their faces.

The myth of coarser, darker, more abundant re-growth is just that. A myth. Perpetuated by the beauty industry to get us to buy the expensive products, go to a salon for expensive treatments and generally make them money. The hairs feel coarser because they haven't been sitting on your face, being softened by cleansing and rubbing on pillow cases.

I finally bit the bullet. Shaved my upper lip. OMG, how I wish I had done it years ago when I first started removing that growth! I can do it daily, if I feel the need. 5 seconds, literally. It's done! No burning, or accidental chapped lip edges and no waiting 10 minutes.....blah blah blah. I apply a rich cream after to soothe any irritation, although I really haven't had any that I know of.

I advise anyone to do it.

I am going to refrain from "fuzz" removal on the rest of my face for a few years. Although, dermatologists recommend it! It's a great exfoilation techniques.

However, since I don't wear any makeup, I'm not worried about any foundation or powder sticking to those tiny, fuzzy hairs and making them more apparent.

It's nice to be free from the chemical crap. Really. :D

One of the things I was thankful for was NOT having to shave my face. My legs are an absolute war zone from shaving and was thrilled to find the sensitive skin shower Nair that helps particularly with the winter dryness.

I was blonde and maybe still dark blonde/light brown and don't have much facial hair. I occasionally pull out a chin hair, which I think comes with age and when the day comes I need more than that I will go to the salon and wax. With Mother as my model I think this will be enough.

I know it's a bigger issue for darker or coarser haired people. I had roommies in college that were mustache bleaching etc. Hope this works out for you, roseanne.

I am a dark brunette. My biggest problem with waxing, is that you must let your hair get longer than I'm comfortable with, in order for the wax to "grab" and pull it out.

You should do a little reasearch about facial shaving for women. It's more common than you realize.

lol @ chin hair. GRRRR. I will sometimes find a grey one that is long. With my 5X mirror and reading glasses, the light must hit it just right for me to see.

My poor oldest daughter inherited her paternal grandmother's hairiness. Lots of arm hair and facial hair. She told me that one time, she had a very long chin/cheek hair that was so long it was tickling her collar bone. She has long hair, so she just kept thinking it was a stray hair and kept brushing it away. ROFL! She was mortified to finally see that it was a face hair. I shouldn't laugh.............. :g

Believe it or not, it is illegal for ladies in New Mexico to appear in public unshaven.

I don't think women have an obligation to shave their legs.

...But I think men do.

Ok, so I've been shaving my upper lip for two or three weeks now and I LOVE IT! It's a much cleaner look because there are no stubborn/missed "straggler hairs" left after that have to be plucked, I do it more often because I can and there is no pain. Wish I had thought of trying it years ago. Oh well, live and learn. :)

It's like it's our default holiday. You know, two guys meet:

"We celebrating anything today? Christmas? Pancake Day?"

"Naw,"

"Cool! It's Beer Day again!"
