There once was an albino cedar tree on Vancouver Island nestled deep in the rain forest at the very end of Clayoquot Sound. The 2,500 year-old tree was considered sacred by the Haida and was a symbol of solidarity among environmental groups protesting the clearcut logging scheduled for the sound. They were largely successful in preventing any logging in the sound but as a protest against the protestors a few years ago, some redneck logger cut the ancient tree down.

My friend at Whistling Gardens has propagated some cuttings from that tree, so it now lives on in Southern Ontario.

Good grief, Sid. It really takes a special kind of dickhead to pick on a tree.
