“Thus did a handful of rapacious citizens come to control all that was worth controlling in America. Thus was the savage and stupid and entirely inappropriate and unnecessary and humorless American class system created. Honest, industrious, peaceful citizens were classed as bloodsuckers, if they asked to be paid a living wage. And they saw that praise was reserved henceforth for those who devised means of getting paid enormously for committing crimes against which no laws had been passed. Thus the American dream turned belly up, turned green, bobbed to the scummy surface of cupidity unlimited, filled with gas, went bang in the noonday sun.â€

Kurt Vonnegut lost his illusions/delusions about the perfection of his nation when he first heard the question, "Why Nagasaki."

Or, at least, that's the way Kurt told the story.

His words are not pretty, and they are not the words most want to hear, but, they dooooooo make one think, don't they?

That was 45 years ago, JD.
Came accross the above a few times over the past few weeks and thought I'd post it.

It's been a long time since I've read any of Kurt Vonnegut's novels. What I recall of his work is that it's brilliant. I might have to re-familiarize myself first before I can comment any further. A funny coincidence though - I was thinking of doing just that about two days ago.

Great minds... and the times we live in. A little retrospection can be good once in a while.
