IF the bullying was the cause of death, I hope they file manslaughter charges against those who did this. Will we ever get a handle on bullying? I wouldn't even call this bullying, as such. I'd call it assault.

12-year-old boy who was victim of bullying attack dies after weeks in hospital

PHILADELPHIA -- A young boy who was the victim of bullying has died, according to his family. Bailey O'Neill, who turned 12 on Saturday, was in a coma after suffering several seizures. His family told NBC10's Katy Zachry that he died at the hospital on Sunday.

Bailey's family says he was jumped by two classmates during recess at Darby Township School last January and suffered a concussion as well as a broken nose as a result. He then began to suffer seizures the next day, forcing doctors to put him into a medically induced coma. Joy Fecanin, the boy's grandmother, told NBC10's Katy Zachry that he had to have a blood transfusion after getting pneumonia.

.........

While the students who jumped Bailey were suspended for two days, police have not yet revealed whether they will be criminally charged.

........

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan says investigators are trying to determine if the injuries Bailey received in the fight caused his seizures. Investigators interviewed kids and recess aides who were on the playground when the fight broke out

And another child lost forever in the bullying epidemic that is roaring ~ :tearhair ~ bullying is a fact of life for FAR too many children and families ~ bullying often goes beyond physical violence ~ the worst bullying is insidious, psychologically slipping into kidlets' daily routines without anyone [other than the bullied child] even noticing ~ it's an ENORMOUS problem ~ and it's in EVERY school in EVERY town and city ~

I posted maybe a year ago that I had seen and been deeply affected by the brutally grim but honest documentary "Bully" ~ I again urge everyone with kidlets/grandkidlets in elementary/middle/high school ages to see this documentary, preferably with your kidlets/grandkidlets ~

This is hideously sad. Now, this poor 12 yo was jumped and beat up in plain site on the school yard!

My son was big so he wasn't much of a bullying target, but I don't think that was the total reason. He didn't care about what other kids said and ignored them.

His childhood friend, Mike (hopefully ex-heroin addict) on the other hand was always getting into fights at school. "My dad did your mom" Fight at school. "You a punk." Fight at school. "Your girl a ho" Fight at school "I did your girl" Fight at school. and so on and so on.

It isn't a problem that is easily solved nor is it confined to the schoolyard. The insidious stuff goes on through life in the home, in the workplace and throughout society.
