Is there a way for more topics to be displayed on a page? There are 25 topics displayed on a page. If I post something and return even a day or two later, it has been pushed clear off the page, way back onto Page 3 or 4! You know what they say: "Out of sight, out of mind," so people stop participating in that discussion.

If someone shows up who hasn't been around for, say, a week, they won't even see the topic -- though it might have been one that interests them. Instead they will just post in the few topics near the top of Page 1.

It would be nice if 100 topics per page could be displayed. Then people could look down the page and see older topics that might be of interest to them. And when I say "older," it's not like they are from months ago. They could be from yesterday, or even just earlier in the same day.

Thanks.

There's a search function.

Thanks for the post, SciFi ~ I'm pretty sure there is a limitation in PHP, and I think the limit is 25 ~ but I'll double-check that ~

oskar, you need to know what you're searching for to search ~ I think SciFi's point is being able to quickly skim thread titles to see what catches your interest ~

How is 50 per page for a start?
Sooz, let me know what you think.

Would make for a mighty long page.
I'm quite happy with the way things are but have no objections to any changes.

Jab, I've been searching the admin options and haven't found where/if it's changeable ~ apparently, from your post, it IS ~ :b ~ yes, let's try 50 first and see how others feel about it ~ once it's changed, we can/will do a poll just asking "prefer 25", "prefer 50", etc ~

Thank you, Jab ~ :fl

oskar, I'm comfortable with 25 too ~ that's what we used in both msn and yuku ~ I agree 100 would be a very long page, but let's give 50 a shot ~

I would still love for clicking links to open a new tab, not take you away from the site!

I am not used to it, it is the only forum I belong to that does that and i am always being taken away.

MP, we can and will check on that too but we're limited by what PHPbb allows/disallows ~ when I click a live link, it does go to <wherever> BUT I just click on the "back arrow" when I'm done and it returns me to where I was before I clicked ~ what browser are you using?

Sooz, there's a hack for mpicki's request. She's not the first one to ask for that.
I don't trust myself to do the hack yet since I can't increase the font size of the program I would need to use for that.
Hopefully soon.

Firefox. I can go back. But a lot of times I open articles to read later, because I don't have time to read them. So, ideally I would open an article and move on to the next post. I can only do that if I remember to right click and open in a new tab, which i never remember to do! So, I don't read a lot of articles.

Thanks, Jab ~

Also, I'm going to take the poll myself ~ I kinda like 50 topics on a page ~ but maybe I need to change the poll to also ask about number of posts to a page ~ is it safe to guess that is also adjustable?

I'm fine with 25 too. If I'm gone for a week, then I don't care (or either I just post a new thread, if I find something interesting :b ). Mostly, don't care. Too much happens in a week for me to worry about slogging through old threads.
Frankly, I don't have the time to do that either.

mpicky, I have gotten used to using the scroll wheel click to open new tabs, so I do that automatically anyway. Took a while to get used to, but now I'm spoiled and sometimes have up to 10 tabs open when researching something. :o

edited to add: my biggest problem is clicking on the big red "X" when I have multiple tabs open. That closes all tabs, lol. Each tab has it's own red "X"

Didn't even know about that function, I just tried it and it worked. How does that work on a lapto touchpad, though?

Duh! You right click, and scroll to "open in new tab". I should've known that since MSN.ca will NOT let my use my scroll wheel and I have to do the right click. :eyes

LOL, I'll bet no one has noticed this (maybe jab), but at the bottom of the forum page there is a drop down menu:

Dispaly: All topics
One day (from previous)
7 days (from previous)

As well you can sort by Author, Subject, Post Time, Replies or Views in ascending or descending order.

I'm fine with starting with 50.

Keep in mind that the titles are only text, so it won't take any significant more time to load a page that has 25, 50, or 100 titles.

25 is too few for a board as active as this one. Topics roll off the front page too quickly.

Thanks.
