I have 2 email accounts ~ one is Hotmail and one is gmail ~ I've had the Hotmail account for many years and I switched my cable email account to gmail when we switched from cable to satellite a couple of years ago ~ I've always gotten a lot of spam [both unwanted ads and phishing scams] in Hotmail, even with its strong filter ~ but beginning maybe 10 days ago, I'm suddenly getting both spam and phishing scams in gmail too ~ I do forward the phishing scams to spam@uce.gov and delete the ads ~ but it's VERY annoying that there's no place to hide!

Funny thing, isn't it? I used to select "phishing" (or whatever the hell it was called) on Hotmail (now Outlook btw) that supposedly reported it and it made me think something would be done to prevent it. Sort of like the "report problem" when your browser shuts down suddenly. I've never reported. :b

Anyway, I got more and more crap. Then I started to just use the delete all button and lol, it seemed to slow it down. I didn't receive as many spam emails. Go figure. I think MSN was selling the GD "report phishing" info.

Outlook appears to be a little better about spam.

I didn't get near as many spam emails until we got our iPhone and tablet. After registering for Amazon for books and other things, the spam got worse. The nature of the internet beast. :tearhair

Can't speak to gmail as I don't use it but I've had hotmail ( actually with the@msn.com extension) for twenty years. I get relatively little spam, and almost none in my inbox. Of course whenever I order something or get a disocunt card from a store I start getting their ads but it is easy to unsubscribe or mark them as junk and never see them again. now, when I look in my junk mail folder as I rarely do but just in case.... there is a fair amount of get drugs and enlarge your penis emails there. I'm pretty happy with the service overall. I pay $20/year for the extra storage and enhanced service.

Ah, the magic word. "Pay" lol. I'm sure that enhances the spam control.

I get penis enlargement ads, invitations to join "Fuckbook" :eek , and the usual "Dear friend in our God.......I have $50 gazillion dollars and am dying......" :lol

I cannot believe that people fall for the latter. However, they must or they wouldn't still be sending out those things.
