Ring-wing pastor: Girl Scouts are wicked and their cookies promote lesbianism
"Please, I beg of you, stop buying Girl Scout cookies," Kevin Swanson pleads VIDEO
By Katie Mcdonough

Girl Scout cookie season is still a few months away, but pastor and right-wing activist Kevin Swanson is already worked up about the consequences of eating Caramel DeLites and Thin Mints.

Namely, lesbianism, abortion, Communism and general wickedness.

“Please, I beg of you, stop buying Girl Scout cookies,” Swanson pleaded during his Monday radio broadcast.

Swanson isn’t the first conservative to go absolutely bananas over the Girl Scouts’ inclusive but fairly anodyne policies regarding sexuality, gender and religion, but it’s still plenty fun to listen to him panic about them.

You can listen to his entreaty here: [Sooz says audio clip accessible via the end link]

The only consequences I ever suffered from eating GS cookies, was my waistline expanded. :tongue

I suppose that in his opinion "Godly Womanhood" involves women who are dominated by a man, pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen. What is he so afraid of? Women who are smart, independent and pro-active? I think so. Lesbians? Maybe, not that they would give him the time of day. :lol

Methinks the good pastor had a batch of cookies laced with a Schedule I substance.

Too late! They've been selling them here for weeks. I just finished a box. Now I'm a lesbian. I like women.

He's right about their being "evil" -- but not for those reasons.

The problem I have with the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts is that children are segregated by their gender (discrimination!) and then taught that certain activities are for girls while others are for boys. Why is it that they are called "Girl Scout Cookies" rather than "Boy Scout Cookies", or just "Scout Cookies"?! It's because of the stereotype that baking is a girl's chore.

There should not be separate "Boy Scouts" and "Girl Scouts". There should just be "The Scouts".

Additionally, the cookies are not even made by Girl Scouts. They are made bya private company and given to the Girl Scouts to sell. The whole thing is one giant hoax and one that fosters discrimination.

So, yes, he is right that the cookies are evil. Just not for the reasons he gave.

Cookies are evil. Most of them are made with trans fats and other horrible non food substances. They are fat and cholesterol machines.

If you must eat them, at least have a little red wine with them to counter the bad effects.

The Scouts are for children. They're not playing professional football.

Are you attempting to justify the discriminatory practice of segregating children by gender and the stereotypical roles they are supposed to have (baking is a girl's chore), Oskar?

The so-called "stereotypes" occurred naturally.
It doesn't mean that they are iron-clad but that the genders have different tendencies and that there are reasons for those tendencies.

I just bought popcorn and cookie mix from the Boy Scouts. I think people associate the selling of cookies with Girl Scouts. I baked cookies in Brownies back in the day, but we did camping and stuff, too.

I think the Boy Scouts make s'mores and cook during their camping expeditions, too.

I see nothing wrong with all girl or all boy organizations, especially if the children are socializing with other genders at other times.

Giggling girls need to just be girls sometimes. Talking about boys, hair, clothes and such. "Gross" boys need to just be boys sometimes. Catching frogs and lizards, having burping contests and the like. Then there is the camping. Mixing genders would create all sorts of logistic problems, require more chaperones (which are always hard to come by) and be a general headache. Believe me, it's hard enough with one gender.

As for the cookies/cooking/baking.......yes the Boy Scouts learn camp cooking skills. Girl Scouts earn all sorts of badges for things like woodworking. The cookies sale is also used as a tool to teach business practices. Marketing, selling, delivering and collecting money. Most cookies are pre-sold, so good record keeping is essential.

Here is a link for the GS merit badges:

Here's the BS list:

http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/boy ... /list.aspx

Different, yes, but many that are similar.

The Girl Scouts of today are very different than when I was one. More progressive. I'm not sure about the Boy Scouts.

Kathy.......damn those Boy Scouts for expecting you to bake those cookies yourself! :b

That's a pretty low bar in the "evil" games you've got there SciFi.

I always mourn a bit when I see the meaning of a perfectly good word, describing something highly significant, is degraded to such an extent that it loses its force. Our language loses something when that happens.

The Boys Scouts KNOW better than that. I rarely touch a stove or oven. Some man will have to bake them for me.
