No, it's not because of the homophobia, because that's not surprising and even expected. No, it's not because people like this feel empowered to shout their bigotry to the world. It's because, quite frankly, they are clueless. If this man wins, those who vote for him deserve what they get. Sadly, everyone else has to suffer too. See underlined sentences.
Dean Young says homosexuality 'always has been, always will be' wrong in Q&A with The GuardianAs the Republican runoff in the race to replace U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner, R-Mobile, winds to a close, both candidates showed their differences in a quick Q&A with The Guardian Wednesday.
Bradley Byrne, a lawyer and former state senator from Montrose, said, without weighing in on marriage, that homosexual couples can feel the same love for each other as straight couples and that his political hero is Winston Churchill.
Dean Young, an Orange Beach real estate developer, cited Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore as his political hero and said, after being pressed for an answer, that
he believes President Obama was born in Kenya. In response to the question about homosexual couples, Young stood by his beliefs about homosexuality.
"Homosexuality is wrong, and that is just the way it is," he said. "Always has been, always will be."
Young failed to correctly name the U.S. treasury secretary and the House majority whip. Byrne, though he had to think about the treasury secretary's name, got both right. (The treasury secretary is Jack Lew; the majority whip is Kevin McCarthy. Dean names Henry Paulson and Tim Geithner, both past treasury secretaries, and Eric Cantor, the House majority leader.)The runoff election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 5. The winner will face Democratic Burton LeFlore in the general election on Dec. 17.
