This actually happened: New York elected Klingon General Martok into office this week, because why not

While Michele Bachmann has been freaking the hell out over the Muslim Brotherhood with her heightened sense of paranoia (voices in her head) saying they are infiltrating the White House, a Klingon has been elected into office. Klingon General Martok was elected to the Ulysses Town Board during this week’s New York state elections. Yay!

64 year-old actor J.G. Hertzler was nominated by Democrats last spring and was introduced at the party’s caucus in August as the “the only Klingon general living in Ulysses.”

How’s that for diversity.

Wonkette reports:

In Ulysses, New York, voters elected to their town board actor J.G. Hertzler, a human who is best know to fans of the Star Tracks: Deep Space Nine television program as “Chancellor Martok.” Martok, of course, helped lead Klingon forces in the Dominion War (not including that unfortunate period where he was temporarily replaced by a Changeling, duh), and eventually became leader of the entire Klingon Empire. We can’t say with any certainty that Hertzler is the first Klingon elected to office in the USA, but he is definitely the highest-ranking

PolHudson reports:

Hertzler is an adjunct professor at Cornell University’s film and theater department. He once worked for the EPA in Washington, and now he opposes hydrofracking in New York.

On his campaign website, Hertzler said, “The immense and under-reported risks of environmental destruction of land, air and water quality due to this particular drilling technique is not compatible with human habitation and must not be allowed to happen here.”

Republicans, please do try to call Hertlzer a ‘lazy’ Klingon. We know you want to. ‘Sources say’ that Republicans are scrambling to reach out to the Klingon vote and we know how well that will work out.

Cool! And I'll bet he'll do a better job serving in office than we humans have done.
