I was kind of thinking you might have a similar opinion of Blair to me Joe.
He, and Bob Hawke over here (although he sold his soul to Packer rather than Murdoch) were the Quislings of the Labor movement.

I mistrusted him from the outset and saw him as an opportunist intellectual lightweight. All his actions since that time have simply confirmed that view. even without his poodling up to big city money,Maggie the fruitbat and GWB his record would be shocking. He did nothing to regulate the pillaging of company pension funds by big money in spite of this being the central platform of his manifesto. as a consequence tens of thousands of workers lost substantial pension rights. he made a complete pigs ear of the devolution issue leaving everyone dissatisfied and leading directly to a serious possibility of Scotland ceding from the union. He is an odious toady.

Nope!

I'd be interested in what Joe thinks of Miliband though.
I read some of his father's books. Is he a chip off the old block underneath it all?

I am guessing that yes he probably is. But in much the same way as all of us are (or should be) influenced by history and experience, I think his brand of socialism is heavily tempered by realism. With a almost universally hostile media he has to watch every word and every nuance. This makes him come over as colourless and i think it is now the nature of the game that you must not make loud noises lest you frighten the voters. It's sad really but that is progress I suppose. My own MP is the larger than life champion of the working man Dennis Skinner. Sadly now well past his sell by date Dennis was/is utterly approachable and the scourge of every petty tyrant behind a departmental desk. Dennis though was in the old school tradition where ideals meant passion and the wit to sell them.
