An even better "oh shit" moment..........or a "hey Bubba, watch this" moment:

Illinois man ‘showing off’ shotgun to friends fatally shoots self in head to prove it is empty

(I think they mean his head was empty?)

An Illinois man died over the weekend after he shot himself while trying to prove to his friends that his shotgun was empty by pointing it as his head and pulling the trigger.

According to the Sun-Times Media Wire, Evanston police responded at around 9:45 on Sunday night to a 911 call about a man accidentally shooting himself in the head.

Police said that the man was “on the floor with a shotgun wound to his head. The shotgun was lying beside him.”

Cook County Medical Examiner’s office identified the man as 31-year-old Eric Zyzanski.

Witnesses at the apartment reportedly told police that Zyzanski pulled out his shotgun “began showing it off” to a group of friends. But his friends “became alarmed and told him to put it away.”

Zyzanski apparently attempted to demonstrate that the firearm was not a threat by ejecting “2-3 rounds,” a police statement said.

He then “held the shotgun to his cheek, told his friends it was empty and pulled the trigger.”

Police found that all of the witnesses “gave consistent accounts of what had happened,” and the evidence supported their stories.

Another ammosexual showing off his gun with predictable results.

http://inversesquare.wordpress.com/2014 ... slaughter/

How Is This Not Manslaughter?

How?

Katherine Hoover, from New Port Richey, Fla., was visiting a friend in Brooksville, Fla. on Saturday along with her husband. Hoover was recently married and five months pregnant.

William DeHayes was showing Hoover his gun collection. While he was showing her his .22 caliber revolver, it accidentally fired and shot Hoover in the head, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. [More at the Tampa Bay Times.]

Hoover died in the ER yesterday; the child she was carrying died with her.

This is, of course, merely the ordinary awful that necessarily flows from Second Amendment fundamentalism. I’ll say one thing: anyone who chalks an incident like this to the necessary cost of preserving freedom cannot be said to be pro-life. If abortion by gun is OK by you…

In any event, the blunt fact of unfettered gun ownership and the celebration of a culture of the gun is that those most at risk of gun violence remain those who own them and their friends and family. Put together the gun-suicides, “accidents” like these,* and shootings of intimate partners and or others known to the shooter, and you have well over half of all gun deaths in the US — a number which in total is essentially the same as those we lose to road accidents.

The fantasy of the gun? It’s all fun and games until the reaper lays hold of its victim’s cloak:

There’s more. Here’s the bit that I just can’t stand:

Police are still investigating the incident, but believe it was an accidental shooting, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

An accident? Not a charge of involuntary manslaughter?

Maybe that’ll come, but sweet FSM! You pick up a gun and shoot someone dead — even if you didn’t mean to — and that’s not a crime?

The NRA, ammosexuals, and all their enablers in politics and the media tell us that the term “responsible gun owners” has actual meaning. It doesn’t, as this case demonstrates . I’ll update this post if it turns out that Mr. DeHayes faces actual consequences for taking another person’s life, but until then, I’m going to vent:

Responsible means that whatever happens with your gun is your fault. Period. You accidentally discharge it and no-one gets hurt? How’s this: big fine, confiscate the weapon involved, lose the right to bear arms for a year for the first incident, forever if you repeat. Someone gets hurt or dies? Jail. Civil liability. Loss of gun rights for life. That’s responsibility.

But of course, I dream. That’s not how we roll. Instead, we’ll just water the tree of liberty with a newlywed, and celebrate life by burying her fetus — and wait (not long) for the next red harvest.

*Scare quotes because such shootings are not acts of god — the deer that darts across the road just at the moment when you have to swerve into a tree or take a 400 pound antlered rodent through the windshield. They are the statistically predictable outcomes of handing guns out freely to a population in which only half of the folks are above average. That is, even though there is no way to predict that Ms. Hoover would fall victim to this awfulness, we knwo we can expect some number per year or month of folks felled by stupidity, carelessness, and general fuck ups with a gun.

Excellent article/rant!! I love this:

Quote:
They are the statistically predictable outcomes of handing guns out freely to a population in which only half of the folks are above average.

And this is graphic, but true statement:

Quote:
But of course, I dream. That’s not how we roll. Instead, we’ll just water the tree of liberty with a newlywed, and celebrate life by burying her fetus — and wait (not long) for the next red harvest.

Your NRA: Meet William DeHayes

Image
Yup, the total package: no shirt, cig plugged into piehole, displaying his manhood. Surely he is the stud of his trailerpark.

NRA member Willy DeHayes is very proud of his manhood. So much so, he likes to show them off to people. Sometimes this isn't a good idea:

Brooksville, Florida -- A 25-year-old pregnant woman is dead after she was shot in the head last night in Brooksville.
According to the Brooksville Sheriff's Office, Katherine Lynn Hoover died early this morning.

She was five months pregnant.
Physicians at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point removed baby boy Hoover last night after Katherine was airlifted to the hospital with life threatening injuries. Baby boy Hoover was pronounced dead at 8:35 p.m.
Sheriff's investigators Katherine Hoover's injuries occurred after her friend, William DeHayes, showed her his .22 caliber revolver and it went off, the bullet striking Hoover in the head.

Hey, but it's all ok--Willy feels bad about everything:

"We feel terrible about the whole thing," Don DeHayes, William's father, told 10 News. "For the other family, for my son and his family, we just feel bad. We can't change it."

Don DeHayes sounds like a real putz.

Family asks for ‘memorial’ donations to the NRA after son is killed by ‘unloaded’ gun
By David Edwards
Thursday, August 7, 2014 13:31 EDT

A Missouri family whose son was killed by a gun that was supposed to be unloaded is asking for “memorial” donations to be sent to the National Rifle Association (NRA) or other gun-rights groups in his memory.

On Wednesday, 21-year-old Makenzie Halinski was sentenced to seven years in prison for fatally shooting her boyfriend, 20-year-old Cole Campbell, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

In an interview with Festus police, Halinski said that Campbell had a makeshift shooting range in his basement, and had been teaching her how to use guns on June 24. She said that he told her that one of the guns was unloaded, and said, “Shoot me.” But the gun was loaded, and a bullet struck Campbell in the forehead when she pulled the trigger.

She stated that the pair had been drinking and smoking marijuana at the time of the shooting. The Post-Dispatch also reported that the St. Louis County bomb and arson unit had to be called in to remove “several suspicious items” found at the crime scene. Those items were later described as “pipe bombs.”

Halinski apologized at her sentencing. “I didn’t know anything about guns,” she explained

It was clear in Facebook photos obtained by the Daily Mail that Campbell had a love for firearms. In one photo, he stands in front of a Confederate battle flag holding a rifle. Other photos show him wearing masks, and military gear while holding assault rifles or pistols.

The Post-Dispatch dispatch pointed out that Campbell’s family had said that he aspired to be a gunsmith.

“Memorials in his memory preferred to the N.R.A. or any gun rights organization,” the family asked in Campbell’s obituary.

A Westboro Baptist Church wannabe? ~ :angry :angry :angry ~ Sooz

Florida Church Cancels Gay Man’s Funeral the Night Before Service
“Based on our preaching of the scripture, we would have been in error to allow the service in our church,” the pastor said.

August 8, 2014 | Julie Atwood was at her son’s casket when she received a phone call. It was her church telling her that after realizing her son was gay from his obituary, they were canceling his funeral service scheduled for the next day.

The New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, located in Tampa, said it would be “blasphemous” to hold the funeral service there.

Late last month, Atwood’s son, Julion Evans, died at age 42, after suffering from a rare disease called amyloidosis that slowly destroys the organs. Evans was in a relationship with his husband, Kendall Capers, for 17 years, and they married two years ago in Maryland.

When Evans’ family, who attended New Hope, asked the church to hold the funeral service there, they immediately said yes. But when members of the church read Evans’ obituary that stated he was married to a man, they began calling up the church to complain.

T.W. Jenkins, New Hope’s pastor, told WFLA:

Quote:
Based on our preaching of the scripture, we would have been in error to allow the service in our church. …I'm not trying to condemn anyone's lifestyle, but at the same time, I am a man of God, and I have to stand up for my principles.

The family was rushed to find new arrangements in less than 24 hours, and ultimately, some mourners showed up to New Hope and missed the funeral.

Capers said that he wouldn’t have had a problem if they denied his husband a funeral service earlier, but doing it during his wake was “disrespectful” and “wrong.”

Atwood told reporters: “I did feel like he was being denied the dignity of death."

Texas wants to sell alcohol at gun shows — and guns rights groups aren’t happy
By Arturo Garcia
Friday, August 8, 2014 21:05 EDT

A proposal by Texas officials that would allow alcohol to be sold at gun shows was met with early disapproval from gun ownership advocates, the Associated Press reported.

The proposal by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission would allow for alcohol to be sold at gun events if the weapons on sale there are disabled and not “readily convertible” for use. Gun owners would also be barred from taking possession of their purchased firearms at the show.

“Does that make any sense? Who would buy a gun at a gun show where you couldn’t take possession of it?” Texas State Rifle Association legislative director Alice Tripp. “Nobody is interested in selling alcohol at a gun show.”

The Austin-American Statesman reported that the rule would also cover historical re-enactment events that involve ceremonial firearms displays, but not facilities that choose not to sell alcohol during gun shows.

The proposal would lift the state’s current ban on alcohol sales during gun events at any venue with a liquor license.

“We got a request from a gun club in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to amend the rules,” commission spokesperson Carolyn Beck was quoted as saying.

The commission will hold a 30-day public comment on the issue before making its final decision. A public hearing regarding the proposal has been scheduled for Aug. 19 at its headquarters in Austin.

Probably the only sensible gun related regulation the State has so it's natural they want to get rid of it.

Marketing Failure: Candy for Children That Looks Like Prescription Medicine
File this one under "bad ideas marketers come up with."

August 11, 2014 | Those familiar with the BlogHer conferences know they offer attendees ample opportunity for free swag. But at this year's San Jose conference, blogger Morgan Shanahan was astounded when she sifted through her freebies and discovered one toy company's idea for prescription candy.

Bright Starts, a producer of toddler toys, packaged candy "pills" inside realistic-looking prescription bottles, right down to the cap. On the side the bottles warn "May Cause Serious Laughter" and should be taken by "Laughter Lover."

Understandably, it didn't go over too well. What Bright Starts thought would be a fun addition to its "Fun Comes First" campaign is more like a huge misstep for child safety. More than 60,000 children are taken to the emergency room each year for taking medicines while their guardians aren't looking.

When Shanahan blogged about the experience, Bright Starts responded, apologizing for the obviously bad gimmick and telling AdWeek they immediately stopped passing the candy bottles out when they realized people weren't laughing. They also agreed to alert conference goers by email of their mistake. "We certainly understand and regret any misunderstanding this has caused, and welcome the opportunity to visit further should that be helpful."

NM woman tried to poison roommates after they caught her having sex with dogs: police
By Travis Gettys
Friday, August 15, 2014 8:58 EDT

An Albuquerque woman tried to poison her two roommates after one of them caught her having sex with a dog, police said.

One of the roommates said she found 53-year-old Shari Walters lying nude in a backyard shed with her German shepherd, Spike.

Walters admitted to having sex with both of the roommate’s German shepherds, the woman said.

A male roommate who had been dating Walters broke up with her “because she was having sex with dogs,” police said.

While having dinner that night, Walters’ ex-boyfriend and the other roommate noticed their food tasted odd and their water wasn’t clear.

“Aren’t you going to eat?” the roommate said Walters asked her.

Then she said Walters attacked her and admitted to putting rubbing alcohol in their water and toilet bowl cleaner in their food.

She also said she had been having sex with dogs since she was 14.

Veterinarians who examined the dogs said they suffered minor injuries as a result of the sexual encounters.

Both roommates were treated for minor symptoms related to ingesting harmful chemicals.

Walters was charged with aggravated battery, cruelty or extreme cruelty to animals, and assault with intent to commit a violent felony.

Ahh, that damn slippery slope of gay marriage.

Oh wait! You say that gay marriage was still illegal when she started having sex with dogs at 14 in 1975? lmao, it must have been the inter-racial marriages then.............

Georgia student’s family disowns and assaults him in nightmarish gay ‘intervention’ video
By David Ferguson
Friday, August 29, 2014 9:52 EDT

A 20-year-old college student in Kennesaw, Georgia recorded a violent, anti-gay “intervention” that his family conducted, video of which has gone viral, netting more than 2 million views on YouTube and pulling in donations and messages of support from all over the world.

Daniel Ashley Pierce told Huffington Post Thursday that he came out to his family in October of 2013, but that on Wednesday, his father, stepmother, mother and grandparents assembled in his father’s house to disown him and cut off all support if he refused to submit to religious counseling, so-called “pray away the gay” therapy.

Pierce said that he recorded the family meeting because, “I wanted to make sure there was evidence in case something happened.”

“Pierce’s video began going viral,” wrote Cavan Sieczkowski, “after it was posted by Dan Savage with Seattle’s The Stranger. In the five-minute clip, which does not focus on any individual’s face, the people in the room with Pierce can be heard telling him his sexuality is a choice. When he disputes that, they use religion as an argument.”

Things quickly get heated.

“You can deny it all you want to,” says Pierce’s stepmother, “but I believe in the word of God, and God creates nobody that way. It’s a path that you have chosen to choose.”

Pierce tries to explain that science has proven that sexual orientation is not a choice, but an innate quality.

“Scientific proof trumps the ‘word of God,’” he says.

“You go by all the scientific stuff you want to,” she replies. “I’m going by the word of God.”

When Pierce refuses to back down, his family members attack him, punching and slapping him. They call him a “little piece of shit,” a “damn queer” and a “disgrace.”

“What is wrong with you people?” Pierce asks after one bout of physical violence.

“What’s wrong with you?” they scream back.

The recording of the nightmarish confrontation has gone viral. Pierce’s boyfriend set him up a Go Fund Me account to try to raise $2,000 for Pierce to live on while he finds a place to live. By 9:30 A.M. on Friday, well-wishers had donated more than $53,000.

In a note at the Go Fund Me site, Pierce wrote, “Oh My you guys! I am in tears! I didn’t realize that this was even set up for me! I am so thankful for all the comments, support and donations! I don’t even know how to thank y’all! I wish I could give each and everyone of you a huge hug! I was trying to respond to everyone but I couldn’t keep up!! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! This is all just so amazing!!!”

“Thank You from the bottom of my heart!!” he said.
