I don't know if your characterization is fair, Oskar. The vast majority of states, right or left, appear to be roughly equal. It's true the dark red states are all Republican now but prior to their current governors, Oklahoma and New Mexico, at least, sported Democrat honchos. By the same token, both California and Vermont, who fall into the light orange category have recently had Republican governors.
