Catholic League chief Bill Donahue: Liberals defend Islam because they don’t like Jews

Bill Donahue, president of the Catholic League, said Tuesday that one of the reasons that liberals defended Islam was because they shared common enemies: The United States and Jews.

On NewsmaxTV, host Steve Malzberg asked Donohue to respond to the recent spat between actor Ben Affleck and comedian Bill Maher.

“Well, in 1999, Ben Affleck starred in the anti-Catholic movie Dogma, which said that the Virgin Mary had a daughter through sex with Joseph and that she went and worked in an abortion clinic,” he remarked. “They asked him about this, ‘is it anti-Catholic?’ He said it was definitely meant to push some buttons. So we know he is not going to push the buttons of Muslims, just Catholics.”

“They’re always bashing us. If they only showed one ounce of the sensitivity to Catholics they show to Muslims I wouldn’t even have a job.”

Liberals are afraid to criticize Muslims, but that is not the only reason they support the Islamic faith, Donahue claimed.

“I think there is also a sense here, a lot of these people really don’t like America,” he explained. “What does Islam have in common with the left? Maybe not in terms of ideology, but in terms of an animus against this country, and I think it’s palpable, and they don’t like Jews either.”

“And I’m so fed up with these phonies — (like) Chris Hayes on MSNBC — they don’t care at all about Catholic bashing.”

What is a guy representing the Catholic Church doing appearing on a program whose purpose is to denigrate half the adult population of the country, anyway?

Until the Catholic Church speaks out against people like this their reputation will continue to tank. Eventually, they'll be seen as nothing more than just another cult.

I hope Pope Francis jumps all over this! Another opportunity for him to educate his masses.

Catholic League leader calls for constitutional amendment banning gay marriage

Facing an onslaught of federal courts striking down bans on same-sex marriage, Catholic League President Bill Donohue has called upon Catholics to support a constitutional marriage amendment stating marriage may only be between one man and one woman.

Invoking the words of President Barack Obama who said in 2004 “I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman. Now, for me as a Christian, it is also a sacred union. God’s in the mix,” Donohue claims “God got thrown from the mix in 2012″ when Obama ran for reelection.

According to Donohue, the president “tossed God again” this week when he called for same-sex marriage to be recognized as a constitutional right.

“In doing so, he teed up a confrontation between our long-established constitutional right to religious liberty and this newly invented right to gay marriage,” Donohue wrote.

Donohue blamed “unelected judges” and called for Catholics to rise up and “return power to the people.”

“Contrary to what many have said, this issue is not over. Were it not for unelected judges overturning the express will of the people—in state after state—attempts to subvert marriage, properly understood, would not have succeeded,” he wrote. “We need to return power to the people by considering a constitutional amendment. The time is ripe for Catholics to support the efforts of Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, the bishops’ point man on marriage. In February, he called for support of the federal Marriage Protection Amendment.”

According to polling, 59 percent of Americans now support same-sex marriage compared to only 27 percent in 2011.

Donohue, whose organization was once described by comedian Kathy Griffin as “one guy with a computer,” has previously claimed “…the whole purpose of marriage is to have a family It’s not about making people happy. It’s not about love,” before adding “…the idea of two men getting married is the most bizarre idea in human history.”
