Their Struggles: Bristol Palin & Malala Yousafzai's Memoirs, Compared
Nell Scovell | 10/17/14 5:30pm

Two bright young women dominated headlines late last week. On the same day that Malala Yousafzai, 17, won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, Bristol Palin, 23, was cited in an Alaska police report for getting drunk at a party and punching her host "multiple times."

Bristol Palin's "heavily intoxicated" behavior had already prompted her famous mother to release a statement describing her daughter as "one of the strongest young women you'll ever meet." Sarah Palin went on to praise Bristol's "work ethic and heart for those less fortunate."

Sounds like the Nobel Committee gave that Peace Prize to the wrong gal.

A look at their bestselling books, Not Afraid of Life: My Journey So Far (2011) and I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban (2013), reveals a great deal of overlap, including how they both overcame adversity and barely made it out of high school alive.

Perhaps this side-by-side comparison will prompt Nobel consideration for young Palin next year. After all, it's called American Exceptionalism—not Pakistani Exceptionalism.

Bristol was a pretty young girl with big boobs that the media bestowed with qualities not in evidence. She was a spokesman and role model even before anyone knew her. That is dangerous business.

Malala is not as classically beautiful so they will actually have to reframe her story to focus on her actions and behaviors instead of her looks. They probably will not invite her on Dancing With the Stars.

She'd probably not be interested in such a meaningless TV show.

What makes you think everyone wants to be on Dancing With The Stars? ~ or even sees that as some kind of "goal"? ~ Malala's story has always focused on "...her actions and behaviors ..." ~ did you read the comparison chart?

American press/society is superficial. There was NEVER any substance to Bristol.

Tons of substance to Malaka because she actually worked and accomplished things in her lifetime.

Ok, that's interesting since you mentioned looks when speaking about Malala. My bad.

Its an ironic/sarcastic comment Rose .... I mean, "poor Malala might have won the Nobel Peace Prize, but she'll never really make it like Bristol did and be on Dancing with the Stars ..."
