Despite years — if not decades — of dealing with harsh criticism from NFL fans, Native American leaders, politicians, media outlets and even the Federal Communications Commission over its name, The Washington Redskins have made perfectly clear that they won't be voluntarily abandoning their controversial moniker any time soon.

"We'll never change the name,'" said the team's owner Dan Snyder famously to USA Today in 2013. "It's that simple. NEVER. You can use caps."

While it appears that Snyder is still firm in his stance (which is backed, of course, by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell,) many continue to rally against the name at every opportunity, claiming that it is a racial slur which disparages Native Americans.

Noting the team's refusal to budge on a name-change, comedian Hari Kondabolu has come up with a creative solution of sorts.

"If the NFL’s Washington Football team won’t change their name, then perhaps they would change their logo," he wrote on Tumblr late last week. "... to a severely sunburned white person?"

"Let me guess — some of you think this is equally offensive," he continued in the video explaining his campaign below. "No. Equally offensive is changing the San Jose Sharks logo to a shark eating a white person — and honestly, those are only equally offensive if we lived in a society where white people were driven from their ancestral homes, routinely exploited, and forced into brutal poverty by SHARKS, and then played for a team owned by SHARKS. Then, it would be equall offensive."

Kondabolu is now urging his fans to submit their own Washington Redskins logo redesigns on Twitter with the #NewRedskinsLogo hashtag and through a new Tumblr blog he's set up called "A New Logo for The Washington Redskins"

The comedian has received dozens of colourful, humorous logo designs to date, with many of those who've submitted through Twitter directly mentioning the @Redskins handle in an attempt to the get the team's attention.

And Kondabolu is also speaking out against Redskins fans who are defending the team's logo and name as "tradition" on Twitter.

"The Redskins tradition is only 81 years old. That's like one grandparent. One racist grandparent," he elaborated in his video. "You see, it doesn't matter old your tradition is. If enough people tell you that it's hurting them, maybe you should reevaluate your choices."
