Meth witch? Arrested Oklahoma ‘Wiccan’ claims religious right to use drugs

A woman arrested for drug possession in Duncan, Oklahoma claims that it is her religious right as a Wiccan to possess and consume methamphetamine.

According to the Duncan Banner, Lori Potarf and her companion Richard Lee Henderson were stopped on U.S. Highway 81 last Thursday for a defective tail light when officers became suspicious that the pair were inebriated.

A search of the car revealed that both suspects were in possession of velvet Crown Royal whiskey bags containing drug residue and paraphernalia.

Potarf told police that she is a practicing Wiccan and has a religious right to use drugs in the sacred rituals of her faith. Henderson, said the arrest report, did not claim a religious right to his belongings, which included “a metal spoon with white residue and two syringes containing a small amount of clear liquid.”

Police said that Henderson also had outstanding arrests in Comanche County.
