I think Pelosi was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Continuing the fight would have meant delaying, maybe for a long time, getting help to the children. Doing what she did could get them help faster and, from the looks of the pictures circulated in the past week, that was critical. The wild card in this is Grabem. If he uses the funds as intended, Pelosi made the right decision. There are other ways to crack down on the contractors. If he uses, as I suspect he will, the funds to build his wall and pay for his big immigrant round-up, she screwed up and, I suspect, her speakership will be over.

yeah, this was a no-win situation for Democrats, imo.
