A ‘low-profile’ Trump staffer has been subpoenaed by the Capitol riot committee and here’s why
Tammy Marie Rose

The recent wave of subpoenas issued by the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack includes one lesser-known Trump, 2020 campaign staffer. The fact that former Trump campaign staffer Angela McCallum was summoned, according to reporter Betsy Woodruff, shows that ...

In the first Jan. 6 trial, a jury found Capitol riot defendant Guy Reffitt guilty

Tom Dreisbach

A little more than a year after a group of pro-Trump rioters overwhelmed police, stormed the U.S. Capitol, and temporarily halted the country's peaceful transfer of power, a jury has unanimously returned a verdict in the first trial stemming from the events on Jan. 6, 2021:

Guilty on all counts.

The defendant, 49-year-old Guy Wesley Reffitt of Texas, was found guilty of these five criminal charges: Transporting a Firearm in Furtherance of a Civil Disorder; Obstruction of an Official Proceeding; Entering or Remaining in a Restricted Area or Grounds with a Firearm; Obstructing Officers During a Civil Disorder; and Obstruction of Justice—Hindering Communication Through Force or Threat of Physical Force.

It took two days to seat a jury made up of ...

""Bill Barr would still vote for Donald Trump for president," Peter Wehner writes. "It raises the question: Just what would Trump need to do in order for Barr not to vote for him?

"One need not be a progressive to be troubled by Barr’s stance. Indeed, one can believe, as Barr does and as I do, that the left poses threats to our country. If Barr can’t vote for a Democrat in good conscience, the obvious alternative would be to write in some other name on his ballot. But for Barr, that’s not enough. He has come to view the Democratic Party as so depraved, so malicious, so malevolent, and so close to a total victory that would shatter America that he would vote for a man he clearly considers psychologically unhinged, reckless, dangerous, and living in a delusional world. In fact, it’s inconceivable to Barr that he wouldn’t vote for such a man," Wehner continues."

Bill Barr Embraces the Darkness
After everything the former attorney general has seen and heard, he says he’ll still vote for Trump.

Peter Wehner

Even Bill Barr, Donald Trump’s former attorney general and votary, has turned on the former president.

In his new book, One Damn Thing After Another: Memoirs of an Attorney General, Barr wrote that Trump was responsible for the violent assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, an effort whose intent was to overturn the presidential election.

“I do think he was responsible in the broad sense of that word, in that it appears that part of the plan was to send this group up to the Hill,” Barr told NBC’s Lester Holt. “I think the whole idea was to intimidate Congress. And I think that that was wrong.”

After the election, Trump became “manic and unreasonable”; he “was off the rails” and “lost his grip,” according to Barr. He added, “The absurd lengths to which he took his ‘stolen election’ claim led to the rioting on Capitol Hill.” Barr refers to Trump’s “erratic personal behavior” and recounts a meeting after the election, on December 1, when Trump berated Barr for not embracing his conspiracy theories that the election was rigged.

“I told him that all this stuff was bullshit about election fraud,” Barr told Holt. “And, you know, it was wrong to be shoveling it out the way his team was. And he started asking me about different theories. And I had the answers. I was able to tell him, ‘This is wrong because of this.’”

In his book, Barr describes Trump’s reaction this way: “This is killing me—killing me. This is pulling the rug right out from under me.” The former president, referring to himself in the third person, added, “You must hate Trump. You would only do this if you hate Trump.”

Barr, seeing that Trump was enraged, tendered his resignation. According to Barr, Trump pounded the desk and said, “Accepted!”

“And then boom! He slapped it again,” Barr told Holt. To make sure that nothing had been lost in the translation, Trump once again said, “Accepted! Leave, and don’t go back to your office. You are done right now. Go home!”

Barr’s account is notable in part because he often acted more like Trump’s defense attorney than the attorney general. Among the disquieting things he did was ...

Trump silent as Pence criticizes his Putin love affair and “Big Lie”

Former President Donald Trump is silent in the face of questioning about his former VP sharply criticizing his open praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin, praise which he publicly proclaimed in appearances on Fox News and at the CPAC 2022 convention after the strongman’s bloody invasion of Ukraine had already begun.

At an RNC fundraiser on March 4th, former Vice President Mike Pence went in the opposite direction of his former boss by criticizing Putin’s war and those who support him.

Saying the Republican Party has no room for “apologists,” he added:

“Putin only understands strength. As members of the party that won the Cold War, we must send a deafening message: Putin must stop, or Putin must pay.”

His speech was met with roaring applause from the conservative crowd.

More shocking than Pence being out of lockstep with Trump was the radio silence from a man known to lash out angrily at anyone in his party who even hints at contradicting him.

Occupy Democrats reached out to Trump twice seeking comment for this story, but the twice-impeached former president remained conspicuously silent in the face of ....

The death of Officer Jeffrey Smith, who killed himself nine days after confronting a mob at the Capitol on Jan. 6, was the direct result of an injury he sustained during the riot, a retirement board has found.

The ruling marks the first time in the records of the Washington, D.C., police department — and one of very few times across the country — that a suicide has been classified as a line-of-duty death.

Police Officer’s Suicide After Jan. 6 Riot Is Ruled a Line-of-Duty Death
“If he did not go to work that day, he would be here,” said the widow of Officer Jeffrey Smith of the Metropolitan Police.

National Campaign Legal Center alleges the 2020 Trump Campaign possibly laundered tens of millions of dollars
Nick Vargas

The Campaign Legal Center (CLC), a nonpartisan campaign finance watchdog group, has filed an official complaint with the Federal Election Commission that could, in retrospect, mean big trouble for the Trump campaign.

The CLC accused President Trump’s campaign of “laundering” tens of millions of dollars through companies, many which were connected to Trump’s recently ousted campaign manager Brad Parscale.

In the complaint, the CLC accuses the Trump campaign and another joint financing committee of illegally sending almost $170 million to firms without disclosing those expenses to the public.

One of the firms listed in the complaint is ...

Exclusive: Witness Claims Trump’s Chief of Staff Was on Phone Call Planning Jan. 6 March on Capitol
Trump’s team agreed it would encourage supporters to march, but try to “make it look like they went down there on their own,” Scott Johnston tells Rolling Stone

HUNTER WALKER

Donald Trump’s White House Chief of Staff and a national campaign spokesperson were involved in efforts to encourage the president’s supporters to march on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. That’s according to a person who says he overheard a key planning conversation between top Trump officials and the organizers of the Jan. 6 rally on the White House Ellipse — and has since testified to House investigators about the phone call.

Trump and his allies have tried to minimize his role in calling his supporters to the Capitol and argue he was simply participating in a lawful, peaceful demonstration.

Scott Johnston — who worked on the team that helped plan the Ellipse rally — says that’s just not so. He claims that ...

Ginni Thomas Pressed Trump’s Chief of Staff to Overturn 2020 Vote, Texts Show
The messages between Ms. Thomas and Mark Meadows are the first evidence that she directly advised the White House in efforts to reverse the election results.

Danny Hakim, Luke Broadwater and Jo Becker

In the weeks between the 2020 presidential election and the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, Virginia Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, sent a barrage of text messages imploring President Donald J. Trump’s chief of staff to take steps to overturn the vote, according to a person with knowledge of the texts.

In one message sent in the days after the election, she urged the chief of staff, Mark Meadows, to “release the Kraken and save us from the left taking America down,” invoking a slogan popular on the right that refers to a web of conspiracy theories that Trump supporters believed would overturn the election.

In another, she wrote: “I can’t see Americans swallowing the obvious fraud. Just going with one more thing with ...

Mark Meadows Is Truly In Deep Sh*t
Jay Kuo

Former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows is having a very bad month. Two weeks ago, The New Yorker broke a story about how Meadows had registered to vote in North Carolina—a crucial swing state won by just 1 percent—using an address in the town of Scaly Mountain of a dilapidated mobile home in which he apparently had never actually set foot. The standard voter registration form for North Carolina asks for a residential address: “where you physically live.” It is signed “under penalty of perjury.” After the story broke and a local district attorney referred the matter to state authorities, North Carolina investigators began looking into whether Meadows committed voter fraud in the state, which is a Class I felony in the state punishable by ...

Federal Judge Finds Trump Likely Committed Crimes Over 2020 Election
“The illegality of the plan was obvious,” the judge wrote in a civil case, referring to the former president’s efforts to persuade Vice President Mike Pence to upend the certification of the Electoral College results.

By Luke Broadwater and Alan Feuer

WASHINGTON — A federal judge ruled on Monday that former President Donald J. Trump and a lawyer who advised him on how to overturn the 2020 election most likely committed felonies, including obstructing the work of Congress and conspiring to defraud the United States.

The judge’s comments marked a significant breakthrough for the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, which had laid out in a civil filing the crimes it believed Mr. Trump might have committed as it weighs making a criminal referral to the Justice Department.

“The illegality of the plan was obvious,” wrote Judge David O. Carter of the Central District of California. “Our nation was founded on the peaceful transition of power, epitomized by George Washington laying down his sword to make way for democratic elections. Ignoring this history, President Trump vigorously campaigned for the vice president to single-handedly determine the results of the 2020 election.”

The Justice Department has been conducting a wide-ranging investigation of ....

OBVIOUS ILLEGALITY: Federal judge’s latest ruling on Eastman’s records is a major disaster for Trump
TY ROSS

U.S. District Judge David Carter minced no words in his decision on whether the January 6th Select Committee can get their hands on more of John Eastman’s records.

John Eastman, former Trump lawyer — and a key player in what we now know was a far wider conspiracy than originally thought — sent detailed emails to former Vice President Pence’s lawyer Greg Jacob.

Leaked in early March, they were detailed in a court filing that accused Eastman’s emails, with their lies and attempts to alter state election results, of being part of a “criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States.” The committee also wrote in the filing:

Quote:
“The evidence has accumulated, points to Trump and his allies illegally obstructed an official proceeding.”

These were damning emails that saw Eastman repeatedly urging Jacob to ...

John Bolton confirms Trump used the term "burner phones" in the White House
The former president had previously claimed he didn't know what a burner phone was

By SARAH BURRIS

National Security Adviser John Bolton spoke to CNN on Thursday morning to give further information about his claim that Donald Trump was lying when he said he didn't know what a "burner phone" was.

Bolton reiterated a Tuesday comment that he heard the ex-president use the words "burner phones a number of times... It was a term he kind of liked. He would say, 'they have these burner phones.' The former president's acquaintance with the truth is often very casual. This is a good example of it."

He went on to say that he wasn't sure if Trump used one specifically because he so frequently "didn't come down to the Oval Office until late in the morning." Bolton said Trump would make his calls from the residence.

"I certainly spoke to him up there many times on regular phones, on the secure phones or regular landline," said Bolton. "What else he was doing up there, I certainly don't know.

He went even further, saying that if there were no call logs between those hours then it was a "deliberate" move because he knows people who spoke to Trump during that time. Previous reports from Rolling Stone said that Jan. 6 rally organizer Kylie Kremer directed Trump aides to use burner phones, including Lara Trump, Eric Trump, campaign aide Katrina Pierson, and chief of staff Mark Meadows. Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen told Raw Story this week that he knows at least one person who was tasked with buying three burner phones from CVS prior to Jan. 6 to use in the efforts that day. Eric Trump threatened to sue after ...

An attorney who has represented a number of high-profile Jan. 6 defendants has been disbarred by a Virginia state court.

Virginia Thomas urged White House chief to pursue unrelenting efforts to overturn the 2020 election, texts show
In messages to Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in the weeks after Election Day, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas called Biden’s victory ‘the greatest Heist of our History’ and told him that President Donald Trump should not concede

By Bob Woodward and Robert Costa

Virginia Thomas, a conservative activist married to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, repeatedly pressed White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows to pursue unrelenting efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election in a series of urgent text exchanges in the critical weeks after the vote, according to copies of the messages obtained by The Washington Post and CBS News.

The messages — 29 in all — reveal an extraordinary pipeline between Virginia Thomas, who goes by Ginni, and President Donald Trump’s top aide during a period when Trump and his allies were vowing to go to the Supreme Court in an effort to negate the election results.

On Nov. 10, after news organizations had projected Joe Biden the winner based on state vote totals, Thomas wrote to Meadows: “Help This Great President stand firm, Mark!!!...You are the leader, with him, who is standing for America’s constitutional governance at the precipice. The majority knows Biden and the Left is attempting the greatest Heist of our History.”

When Meadows wrote to Thomas on Nov. 24, the White House chief of staff invoked God to describe the effort to overturn the election. “This is a fight of good versus evil,” Meadows wrote. “Evil always looks like the victor until the King of Kings triumphs. Do not grow weary in well doing. The fight continues. I have staked my career on it. Well at least my time in DC on it.”

Thomas replied: “Thank you!! Needed that! This plus a conversation with ...
