Wow, who would have thought that a fund to do something illegal would have been a scam all along?

Don Jr. Attempts To Distance Himself From Bannon's Border Wall Scam After Endorsing It Just Last Year

John Sundholm

As the legal walls begin to close in around Trump insider Steven Bannon for his role in a border-wall funding scam, the scrambling of associates to distance themselves from him has begun.

Leading the charge is the President's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., who released a statement via the Trump Organization all but denying involvement in the scandal.

From Trump Org spokeswoman Amanda Miller re Donald Trump Jr’s visit to the Bannon Wall project:

The statement from Trump Org spokeswoman Amanda Miller claims that Trump Jr.'s involvement with Bannon's organization, a crowd-funding outfit called We Build the Wall, was minimal, amounting to a single speech as a single event in 2019, and that he did not give permission to We Build the Wall to feature him on its website as a testimonial.

The statement also claims Trump Jr. did not know that Bannon included him on the website, and implies that he was "deceived" by Bannon and We Build the Wall. It also stated that We Build the Wall "deserves to be held accountable."

But The Hill reports that Trump Jr., along with his girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, who is a key fundraising figure for Trump's 2020 campaign, and former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, all still appeared on the We Build the Wall website as of the morning of Thursday, August 20, when Bannon and his associates were arrested.

And the statement stands in stark contrast to Trump Jr.'s actual comments at the Bannon event at which he spoke.

Donald Trump Jr. praised We Build The Wall and Brian Kolfage at a 2018 event: "This is private enterprise at its finest. Doing it better, faster, cheaper than anything else. What you guys are doing is amazing.”

The comments were far more effusive than the statement describs, praising the organization for its work and innovation.

Quote:
"This is what capitalism is all about. This is private enterprise at its finest. Doing it better, faster, cheaper than anything else. What you guys are doing is amazing."

Bannon and his associates Brian Kolfage, Andrew Badolato and Timothy Shea were arrested on fraud charges Thursday morning.

The charges brought by the U.S. attorney's office of the Southern District of New York allege that they misappropriated money contributed by hundreds of thousands of donors who raised more than $25 million to privately fund a border wall.

On Twitter, many people pointed out the direct evidence to the ...

Trump Ordered $400 Million Payment To Bannon-Border-Linked Construction Company
BY STEPH BAZZLE

Steve Bannon was just indicted Thursday morning, charged with allegedly using the We Build The Wall donation fund to siphon money into his own pockets. Donald Trump quickly distanced himself from the project, saying that he hadn’t approved of the scheme and hasn’t been involved with Bannon lately. Now it turns out that the president actually ordered Homeland Security to make a $400 million payment to the construction company linked to the border funding scheme. (He’s also reportedly been working with Bannon on re-election matters.)

Though Trump attempted to distance himself from Bannon and the donation scheme, information keeps turning up linking him closely. Raw Story now reports that when the Pentagon’s inspector general looked into a suspicious transfer of nearly half a billion dollars from DHS to Fisher Sand and Gravel, the company linked to Bannon’s wall-building fund, they uncovered that the payment had been made at the urging of Donald Trump and one Republican Senator, Kevin Kramer of North Dakota.

The ACLU is involved in legal efforts to uncover the details and determine where these taxpayer funds ended up.

The Department of Homeland Security, at the urging of President Trump, awarded a $400 million contract to a company affiliated with Steve Bannon’s "We Build the Wall" effort.

President Donald Trump is distancing himself from Steve Bannon's efforts to crowdsource private funds for a border wall, saying it was "done for showboating reasons" and "inappropriate" https://politico.com/news/2020/08/20/do ... est-399313

Also, despite saying that he hasn’t interacted with Bannon in a long time, Trump told an interviewer that Bannon was “involved.” CNN reports the contradictory quote, in which Trump first says that Bannon is “better not being involved” then says “they’re all involved,” this way:

Steve Bannon’s been much better not being involved. He says the greatest president ever. I mean, he’s saying things that I said, “Let’s

keep Steve out there, he’s doing a good job.” But they’re all being — they’re all involved.

Bannon has been speaking publicly about the Trump campaign’s strategy, appearing on Fox News just this week to share thoughts.

DOJ Seeks 6 Month Prison Sentence For Steve Bannon
The ex-Trump adviser was convicted of criminal contempt of Congress after defying a subpoena related to the assault on the U.S. Capitol last year.

Nina Golgowski

The Department of Justice is recommending a six-month prison sentence and $200,000 fine for Steven Bannon for defying a subpoena to appear before the House committee investigating the 2021 assault on the U.S. Capitol.

The former Trump White House adviser was convicted of two counts of criminal contempt of Congress in July after ignoring the subpoena.

“For his sustained, bad-faith contempt of Congress, the Defendant should be sentenced to six months’ imprisonment ― the top end of the Sentencing Guidelines’ range ― and fined $200,000 ― based on his insistence on ...
