Tl;dr: The Global Gag Rule withheld U.S. funds from being distributed to any sexual health clinic that gave information on, or performed, abortions. As a result, many clinics that largely served poor and rural areas were forced to close or drastically reduce their services, denying local women access to STI & cancer screenings, birth control, PAP smears, neonatal resources & ultrasounds, and, yes, abortions. Biden rescinding the rule is important for the bodily autonomy and reproductive health & rights of women both in the U.S. and abroad. A motion is being introduced soon in Congress to permanently repeal the Gag Rule.
