Here is how I tried to send an email to another member.

Clicked "new messages" at the top of the page.
Clicked "Compose message" on the left.
Clicked "Find a Member" which opened a new window.
Found the member and clicked the "email" button.
That allowed me to compose an email.
"Send a copy of this e-mail to yourself" was checked.

Clicked "e-mail".

I have no indication the member received the email nor did I receive a copy.

Did I do something wrong?

That sounds right to me, John ~ I generally use the messaging function to send PMs, not emails ~ the email address will be whatever address the member and sender used when joining us, which could be an address not checked regularly ~ when you use the PM function, you can go back into the "new message" area: in the left sidebar, it will show a number 1 [or whatever number of messages] in the "outbox" UNTIL the message is picked up ~ once the message is picked up, the number disappears ~ I'm not sure if it works the same way with email ~ but let's find out: I'm going to email you using the same steps you took ~ let me know when/if you receive it ~

Okay, just emailed you via the messaging function ~ the number does NOT appear next to the outbox for emails ~ we'll see if I get a copy of it ~

I didn't get a copy either ~ hopefully, Jab will take a look at the "innards" ~ maybe it's a simple adjustment ~ in the meantime, we know the PM function works ~ you'll not only see the number of messages next to the "new messages" at the top of your screen, but you should get a notice in your email that you have a/some new messages ~

So everyone knows, we don't see or track email addresses or passwords ~ if you can't get into VoC, we can send you a temp password to use that we encourage you to change soon as you're back in ~ but there's nothing we can do about email addresses ~

Same way, John ~ go into "new messages" ~ click "compose" ~ if you know the member's nic [it has to be the full nic: iow, John59, not just John], put that into the address section [you need to click "to" underneath that window], write your message, click "send" ~ or you can follow the same steps you outlined in your op but instead of clicking "email", click "PM" ~ either way, the message will appear in YOUR "outbox" as a number until it is picked up by the addressee ~ and the addressee will see a number 1 to the immediate right of "new messages" at the top of our screens ~

Try it with me ~ address it to sooz06 ~

Only administrators can send emails, like when sooz wants to address all members. That's so members do not have access to private email addresses.
To send a message to another member we only have the PM system.

Strike that "only admins can send emails.
Jabby is not an admin. Obviously Jabby could send emails.
I'll try one now

User control panel>> preferences>>>Users can contact me by e-mail: yes or no selectable.

John, check that setting in your profile. I believe the default is "no". Then I guess you wouldn't get a copy.
