Hey jab.........or whoever,

After d/l the newest Avast update, my IE stopped working. I had to go to a restore point to get it back up. I know, I know......use Mozilla. lol I use it too, but use IE most of the time. This is my work computer.

Any ideas or suggestions for d/l the update without problems, or another free anti-virus program?

Thanks in advance.

roseanne, I'm "whoever" ~ nice to meet you ~ :b

Jab will have to answer the technical questions, but I'm happy with Microsoft Security Essentials as my antivirus program ~ I got this Win7 computer well over a year ago ~ it came with a year of free Kaspersky antivirus and I decided to give that a try and dropped Avast ~ Kaspersky was awful, giving lots of false positives and not allowing me to access public sites I've used/read for years with no problems ~ got rid of that and for some reason decided to try Microsoft Security Essentials [instead of returning to Avast] ~ it's been terrific ~ I check for and keep up with regular updates ~

There seems to be a problem since an Avast update in October with IE.
Try to disable the Avast internet security plug-in until the next update (and stay away from porn sites until then) :D .

Thank you both!

I LOVE avast and have felt very secure using it.

I would try that jab, if I knew where it was. :g

A friend/client had the same experience with Avast in Oct. I'm generally not a fan.

Re: Avast 2014: Internet Explorer has stopped working
« Reply #88 on: December 04, 2013, 12:17:10 PM »
I had the same issue. I have just updated to Avast 2014 and my IE 10 stopped working. I have first updated IE to IE11. That didn't help. Than I disabled the avast plugin, reset IE setting, that didn't help either. I went to Control Panel, Programs and Features and modified avast to remove browser protection. That also didn't help.

I have uninstalled avast 2014, rebooted, than installed it again through custom and unchecked browser protection. Now I have avast and IE both working, so I recommend that people try this...
I have found a setting in Avast (Settings/Active Protection), Web Shield, perhaps setting it to off would help as well?
