Got a new computer and need to know what to do with the old one. I have TracksEraser Pro, which will overwrite files 6 (up to 8) times and it also has a file shredder. They say it is enough to keep anyone from retrieving my info.

Would it be better to format the hard drive? Or maybe all of the above. Erase, shred and format.

We will be taking it to a recycle center once we clean it out.

I've saved or backed up all that I need on a couple of USB flash drives, so I'm good to go (once I recheck the flash drives.....just to make sure, lol)

Thanks, once again, for any advice. :k

You should be good to go.
I don't recycle HDDs.

If you have optical discs you want to get rid of - - the microwave does a fantastic job. 5 - 10 seconds is all you need.

You're welcome.... :)
