This morning, I woke up to no sound on my computer ~ checked all the connections and everything is fine ~ I'm thinking in my crazed running of scans yesterday, I might have deleted something I need ~ any advice on where and what to check?

Lower right of your monitor - is your sound turned on?

Thanks ~ checked "sound" and found it says the Realtek Hi Def Audio is not plugged in ~ not sure what that means ~ what IS plugged in are my speakers ~ didn't see "configure" anyplace ~

This can obviously wait until you're done with work, Jab ~

I don't see that option, oskar ~ under the "Sound" tab, I get Playback, Recording, Sounds, or Communications ~ I don't see "manage audio devices" or "device connect" in any of those 4 options ~ there is a grayed-out "configure" button at the bottom of the playback and recording tabs, but clicking on the options does not make it "live" ~

Okay, the Realtek HD Audio Manager is a separate selection under the "Control Panel" tab ~ but I still don't see a "device connect" option ~

It was worth a try and a good suggestion ... but it didn't work ~ :g ~ computer works fine but just no sound ~ hopefully, Jab will have time tonight to figure it out ~ I also got a new warning that made me laugh: when I was rebooting, I got the usual "configuring windows, don't turn off your computer" ~ the next/new warning said "cleaning up, don't turn off your computer" ~ :b

Could be the speakers. They are no doubt externally powered by a wall wart. Have you checked to see that there 's power to it? If plugged into a power strip, is the strip's power switch on? Also I often see that people have plugged the speaker wire into the mic jack, esp when using a laptop and having moved it. That don't work a-tall.

Software-wise, sometimes you have two programs running that are competing for the sound card.

That made me giggle. I HATE having to do that. No problem rooting around, but getting back up is another story.
