XP remains my all-time favorite OS, oskar ~ but I admit Win7 is very close to XP, which I'm sure is why my move from XP to Win7 [I intentionally skipped Vista] was so seamless ~

Jab, this is also fair warning that I intend to upgrade ONLY when you are available by phone ... just in case ~ :b

Today is the day Win10 begins rolling out ~ my msn.com start page is loaded with information and reviews ~ this article is a good general overview: Windows 10 review: the best of Windows 7 and 8 ~

There are a lot of new features I know I will not use ~ but that's my choice ~ it's nice to know the features are there if I ever decide to try them ~ Win10 sounds like it will be a real boon for business users ~ but there's plenty there for us non-business-users too ~

LOL sooz. Ringers! I won't trust the first few reviews which are usually by MSN employees and such.

I'll wait for the geek squads in various forums to review before committing to anything. One review did say to wait at least 6 weeks for bug repair and for you favorite programs to release compatible versions. I'm assuming that means Java, Adobe and possibly iObit etc.

I know, roseanne ~ I'm waiting at least 6 weeks and maybe longer to update ~ but the article I linked above is by a principal blogger on a tech blog who has been testing Win10 for a while now ~ I like the new capabilities that are being offered ~ now I'm waiting to see if and which of those work as designed ~

I read somewhere that the raves over Win10 have a lot to do with it's Xbox/gaming capability. So, IOW, mostly the younger crowd that is into that sort of thing.

Here are some possible "negatives" I found in our friend Andrew's OurBoard Support group in the Windows 10: Issues with privacy… and also WiFi Sense thread ~ keep in mind that both Andrew and Casey are both very experienced with computer issues ~ I easily admit that some of their exchange in that thread is above my pay grade ~ but privacy is something we should all care about ~

I lifted these links from another forum here: http://thepoliticalgrill.yuku.com/topic ... c3eB41RHaE

Interesting and helpful reads as are the member's comments:

http://bgr.com/2015/07/31/windows-10-up ... o-opt-out/

http://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-t ... nse-2015-7

https://www.yahoo.com/tech/s/ultimate-w ... 23052.html

http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style ... 53549.html

One member of that forum said that even if you decide to cover your camera (re: the first link) the mic will still be active and with Win10, could be easily shared.

I've upgraded both of my machines to Win 10 and all went seamless. I didn't have to touch any settings or reinstall any programs. Privacy IS an issue. I just read somewhere that Microsoft can now turn the lights off on pirated software. According to the article... Win 10 is not an OS - - it's a "service". So... if you have any "argh matey" software, you could be in for a surprise one morning when your favourite photo editing software doesn't work.

So far my Office and a few others still works with win10. ;)

But man! What they wanted me to do. I basically turned all their privacy invasion and "store" crap off.
An account with Microsoft? Hell no.

Jab and Sid, how long [approximately] did it take you each to upgrade? ~ I know about the privacy stuff to look for, but is there anything else I need to know before I take the leap?

It ran by itself at 3am. In the morning I had to log in and do my settings, privacy and crap.

Several blue screens so far. Researching already how to revert to Win7.
I'm quite disappointed.

I've heard through the grapevine that there are issues with doing the upgrade from Win 7. I advised some friends of mine to consider avoiding the upgrade because it will still have security support for another 7 years and by then, they will probably have replaced their machines anyway.

I upgraded and found 10 to be an absolutely ridiculous program. Complicated and difficult to use. I tried it for a few days and went back to Windows 7. One thing that happened is my Office Suite disappeared. It wasn't pirated either. I had it installed by Staples when I bought the computer. Would-up having to buy the 2016 version because I had no idea what the key code was - computer is five years old. Anyway, my advice about Windows 10 is "don't do it."

I had the same problem when I reverted back to Win7. I just downloaded a pirated version of Office this time and I'm good to go. Screw Microsoft and their garbage.

So, I've had the pleasure (?) of using Win10 at our new office. Clunky, awkward and downright aggravating! I had a problem with the printer and took forever to find how to change the default setting.

Took me three days to figure out the "favorites" drop down, since it's not under the "star". Took me longer to find the freaking printer icon on Word, which was hidden and it won't let you right click and print unless you do it from a saved document from the document folder list. :eyes

Still don't know how to open another tab without right clicking. The mouse wheel click just brings up a dozen tiles of crap on the screen.

I've yet to explore the other goodies, but did check to see if I could go back to another version of OS. Nope, that computer came loaded with Win10. :angry

I had Windows 8.1.
How dod I go back to it?
Windows 10 isn't compatible with any of my other software and they all act weird.
Another boondoggle from Microsoft. I should have known better.

Jabra will need to answer that, oskar ~ he's working today but I know he'll be around later ~

I'm very glad I've waited to "upgrade" ~ I know as many people [if not more] who are reverting to their prior OS as are upgrading to Win10 ~ I'm still on Win7, but I'm content that Microsoft will support it for another 5 years or so ~
