First question will probably be, "How much do you want to spend"?

my last two were hp and both died in what i consider a short time. this one just over a year so i wonder if i should change brands. Maybe lenovo, dell, toshiba would do better.

HP's run really HOT. I think that's what fries them.

We have Dell now. So far, so good.

BEP, until Jab sees/replies to this thread, I know from personal experience that the Dell website offers some great/not advertised deals ~ it would give you a solid idea of what is available at what price points ~ I know for a fact Dell allows you to "build what you want" on desktops and might offer the same thing for laptops ~ and the website is easy to navigate ~

I know a few people with Lenovo desktops and they are all satisfied ~ it's a solid brand ~ 1T hard drive is terrific on a laptop ~ and it seems to be a very decent price ~

FTR, I had a bad experience with McAfee antivirus some years ago so I'm NOT a fan of McAfee products and would not load that on ~ Windows Defender [which is part of Win10] works well ~

I have an Acer: 15" Monitor - Intel quad core - 1Tb HD - 6 Gb Ram - WiFi - Camera - SD Card Reader - HDMI out - USB 3...

$459.00 at The Source (owned by Best Buy). 2 1/2 years old. I bought a rack to give it air and I've had it run all day with no issues.

Blue, I have a Lenovo desk top at home and I am happy with it. At work we have all Lenovo lap tops and I have not had any problems with it.

BEP, I hope you've seen KB's above post ~ she's had experience with Lenovo and is happy/satisfied ~

But I just saw this on my msn home page ~ take a look [at least to compare pricing] if you haven't already ordered a new laptop ~

I also like Sony's VAIO a lot. I used mine for 8 years, and still would if not for the fact that it can't keep up with today's internet speed requirements. And won't run any windows later than XP. First rate components. BUT not cheap.
