jab one more question
If i did banking but did not change any passwords or have them sent to my msn mail, are my passwords there safe? Or do i still need to change it.
If your hotmail account is compromised it wouldn't be a good idea to get any password reset notice by email.
If there was no need to reset your banking/paypal etc password you should be fine.
Anyway, it's a good practice to change passwords every once in a while. And use your comcast email for important mail.
Now, since you changed your hotmail pass send me again 2 - 3 emails and we'll see if some spambot still wants to get me in on some major financial opportunities in a few hours.
Use bluenew in front of @ instead and add that new addy also to your contacts.

Btw, we should see at latest by tomorrow morning if we were successful. The spambot is somewhere in the GMT timezone.

That's strange. We'll have to get to the bottom of this tonight though. I've got to run.

hey jab, the weirdest thing is happening. While i was offline no unauthorized email was sent. I think thats good. Then i happened to click on drafts in my email and there are two emails composed using my comcast email. Does that mean its been invaded also?? if so, i guess i need to change the password there too, but not have them send me the new password??

I checked my comcast mail, and as far as I can see it has not sent any spam

IM DAZED AND CONFUSED

Did you write the drafts and just forgot to ever send them?

Comcast most likely has a website to reset the password, without going through email.
But check first if you can find out more about the drafts.

No get rich offer from your spambot so far. Image

Just delete the drafts AND your post. Too much info for unwanted lurkers perhaps.
Send a few emails from comcast to bluecomcast@xxxx.xx and we'll wait if there is anything going on.
Still no spam, btw.

No spam today, your Bot has gone away
The folder stands for lorn, a symbol of the dawn
No spam today, it seems a common sight
But people passing by don't know the reason why

How could they know just what this message means
The end of the spam, the end of all its schemes...

OH MY GOD, You are a Prince among men. I cannot believe its finally fixed. You are a TECH God.

I will be forever grateful. Thank you Thank you Thank you

I know I have already taken much of your time, but is it possible when you have time that you could explain what exactly happened? I understand if you are too busy, fixing it was a great service. Once again THANK YOU

Your hotmail account was compromised. MSN's security is lousy at best. It had nothing to do with your computer.
The way I figure some time ago your account was caught by a bot perhaps when you responded to an email and your login info was captured. From there on a script would grab the address by monitoring your email traffic and then send to any new addy one of its prepared spam whenever the spammer ran his/her ad campaign, usually just a few hours later.
You fixed it by changing your password. Now the spammer would have to crack your new password before having access to your email traffic again.
Always remember that hotmail is a free service. MSN doesn't care too much for their users and/or account security.

It's a good idea to use special characters in you passwords. Things like #,$,*,~ etc. make brute force attacks virtually impossible.

I've never had a problem with hotmail, but here's how I manage my account.

I never, EVER reply to or forward those damn "send it to 10 friends and back to me" emails. They are, many times, phishing. I don't do email petitions(add you name to the bottom and send), surveys or anything like that.  I never click on links unless they are from family. If I wish to pass something along, I never do it with a forward but copy and paste the body of the email into a new email. I've always done the above. I use an alternate email for membership to any site I don't know or trust or if I am corresponding to a business site (the "contact us" feature), which is also hotmail.
