I mentioned this in chat recently, finally installed it out on the street. Anyone can open it up, take a book, leave a book. Encourages reading, circulation of books. Gives me a way to get them out of my house.

Very cool gramps! I read about this somewhere and it's proven to be highly successful. In today's world where people don't have the time to get to know their neighbors enough to trade books, recipes, glances etc., this fills a need.
Who knows? It could lead to something else. A book club or at the very least a more friendly neighborhood.

It's cute. It looks like a mail box.

Hubby reminded me that, although I may have read about this, we actually saw one not too long ago on a walk in our neighborhood (to pick up some junk food at Mac's....but that's another story :o ). He even said that I commented on it. Ok, now I remember! lmao.

What an ingenious idea! I love it!

I wonder if some sort of ground rules shouldn't be established? For instance, what if some religious zealot flooded the box with religious material? Or what if someone left tons of political propaganda? If I were to have such a box, I think I would establish rules to please not leave political or religious material in the box.

Yeah, there has to be someone keeping an eye on it, which at the moment is me. This idea originated here in Madison, has spread far and wide. There are guidelines re location, rules, etc. SO...no Bible tracts, no politician flyers, no porn, no advertisement.
