I watch a show called "Dark Matter". It's pretty good, but the one I watched this morning had a really funny line: "We are going to see a movie later. It's "Star Wars 36. I hear it's a classic!"

You could tell the actor had a hard time keeping a straight face when delivering that line.

Indian movies will often make fun of other Indian movies. There are a series of movies called "Dhoom 2," "Dhoom 3", etc., now up to about Dhoom 5. They star an actor called Abhishek Bachchan and are a cross between James Bond and Naked Gun movies. They're very funny and will come out sometimes at the rate of two a year.. In another movie called Oom Shanti Oom there's a scene where all everyone is at the Indian version of the Oscars called the TOIs. The camera is on Abhishek Bachchan as the MC announces: "and the TOI for best picture goes to Dhoom 43 - that's the one without Abhishek."

It seems to me that geeky, sci-fi shows/movies do more of that in N. America. It takes a geeky, sci-fi fan to catch it too.
