The local animal rights zealots decided to round up all the feral cats in the neighbourhood a couple of years ago and spent two summers doing just that.
Now we are overrun with rodents (mice, rats, skunks, etc.) and they are now whining to the authorities about the problem they created.

More like "don't f*ck with nature too much".

"local animal rights zealots"

Can you elaborate? PETA?

Because most "animal rights zealots" I'm aware of support trap/neuter/release and healthy feral colonies with caretakers.

No more cats around. Folks aren't even letting their pet cats out their yards (they keep them tied up).
Those same "zealots" are frequently found on local do-gooder committees that want to tell everybody what colour to paint their fences.

BTW, we took care of our rodents but had to step a wee bit outside the law to do it.

Bummer. Hope no wildlife wind up ingesting it. That stuff is awful for owls and such.

Only inside our house. Nothing outside. We aren't that reckless.

We had last year an invasion of rodents, I guess after they tore down the rat haven appartment building a block away.
I used not banned stuff
JT Eaton 709-PN Bait Block Rodenticide Anticoagulant Bait, Peanut Butter Flavor, For Mice and Rats (Pail of 72)
http://www.amazon.com/Eaton-709-PN-Rode ... ge_o09_s00
and couldn't lay out the bait fast enough.
Don't ask how many dead ones we found a week later.
No more evidence that anything survived that pail.

We used warfarin but since we aren't farmers cannot get a permit so we got some bootleg product. The "home-owner" grade from the hardware store is a big joke. It makes the critters sick for a day and they're back with a vengeance.

I first checked if Home Depot sells Eaton. They didn't so I felt a little more confident.
The results were absolutely amazing.
