Nestorations and mating, 1/6/20. I *think* this is the first time mating was caught on camera this year, but I could be wrong. :)

There seems be be a few sites now with eaglets and eggs, and I glance at them all from time to time, but truth to tell i have soured on eagles and do not find anything endearing about them anymore. People on these sites give them all sorts of human emotions they do not exhibit imo, but seems like people want to believe they feel this or that. From the way they feed their nestlings, to eating dead nestlings, they seem detached of any real caring with the exception of a strong instinct to protect their eggs and babies and to provide food, but otherwise detached. True they mate for life - but the female eagle generally speaking treats her mate like a slave and is overbearing most of the time. Male eagles seem to be are wusses up against their mates. The only majesty i see is when they are in flight. I think they are a poor choice as a symbol for America - although with the current administration and its lack of empathy they may be right for times we are in now.

Doesn't make any sense to try and compare human vs. eagle emotions and motivations. I think we all project to a certain extent with a lot of things.

Where you see "detached", I see dedicated.
Where you see "overbearing", I see leadership and strength. :lol

The Cornell Bird Cams are interesting too.

I love the little Bermuda Petrel, looks like a Tribble from Star Trek when snoozing....

Kind of surprised this year at the number of times the little ones are NOT tucked under mom or dad.

Bunch of little rebels. :lol

And they're off! Bon voyage, eagles!

Two fledged on purpose, one by accident. lol

I'll miss checking in on the nest before bed.

All three young eagles are doing very well! They still come back to the nest and demand food from mom and dad once in a while. Typical teenagers. lol

I don't think any have been spotted actually catching a fish yet but they have been spotted hanging around the fish hatchery and a little creek nearby.

D36 is banded and wearing a transmitter. :) Officially a boy!

My eaglet is 22 and still drops by looking for a home cooked meal or calls asking for us to send crab cakes or cupcakes from time to time. They never really leave if you feed them.

"Our eagles are on the move! D35 surprised us all by making a big move north on the afternoon of August 12th. At 1:03 PM, she was hanging out near the corner of Highway 9 and Montgomery Street in Decorah – about 1.37 miles from her natal nest. By 4:03 – just three hours later! – she was 49 miles NW along the North Branch of the Root River: a lovely wild area that has the riverine valleys, steep folded terrain, and farmed uplands that eagles seem to love. But she continued to head north, passing by Xcel Prairie Island Generating Station (home to peregrine falcons) and pausing briefly at the north end of the island. Our last readings put her just south of the Hastings Bridge in Hastings, Minnesota."

I had not watched them as much as I used to, but still curious how they are doing. Will check in again when the season starts. Not as hooked as I once was, but still interested and like seeing the new eaglets.

I don't remember a season where 2 of 3 eaglets were fitted with transmitters before. So it's pretty cool to see how they move, even if we can't "see" them. lol
