Still brings a tear to my eye....and I'd really hoped this episode would be recognized.

(Silver Spring, Md.) - Discovery Channel's DEADLIEST CATCH won big at the 2011 Primetime Creative Arts Emmys(R) this Saturday, September 10, 2011, taking home four awards including Outstanding Reality Program. The series was also recognized for Outstanding Cinematography for Reality Programming, Outstanding Picture Editing for Reality Programming, and Outstanding Sound Mixing for Nonfiction Programming.

With its four wins for DEADLIEST CATCH, Discovery Channel tied for the most Creative Arts Emmys(R) for a basic cable network, and the series tied for the second highest Emmys(R) wins for any program.

DEADLIEST CATCH profiles the men who risk everything to work the most dangerous job in the world - crab fishing in the icy, treacherous waters of Alaska's Bering Sea. Historically a nominee in Nonfiction categories, this year marked the first year DEADLIEST CATCH was entered, nominated in and won the Reality Program category. The series beat out tough competition in the category, including Discovery Channel's own MYTHBUSTERS, as well as past winner Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List (Bravo), Antiques Roadshow (PBS), Undercover Boss (CBS) and Hoarders (A&E).

DEADLIEST CATCH's Emmy(R)-winning episode was the emotional "Redemption Day," which dealt with the death of larger-than-life Captain Phil Harris. Harris suffered a stroke on January 29, 2010 while his boat, the Cornelia Marie, was off-loading crab. DEADLIEST CATCH, with Captain Phil's and his sons' blessings, documented his battle through surgery and treatment, and ultimately his passing ten days later on February 9.

I don't watch enough tv, I guess.  There's only about five or six of those shows I've even heard of and only one - "House" - that I've seen a whole episode of.

Best Hairstyling? lmao, what's next, Best Catering or Best Best Boy?

What is a best boy?

According to the IMDb, the best boy is the chief assistant, usually of the gaffer, but more often lately used as a general term for the second in command of a group.

Sorry, but I've lost respect for most award shows like this. I rarely agree with most of their choices and many, many excellent pieces of work go unnoticed, while crap like the reality shows are included. Image  And the editing awards? Sheesh, how can that be judged if no one has seen what was left on the edit room floor? jmo

Well, perhaps because I subjected myself to making films/TV in college I can appreciate the technical awards more than some folks. lol

Best boy assists the gaffer ( electric) and/or grip ( lighting). ( Often both on smaller productions, since lights generally need electricity.) Lots and lots and lots of wires to keep track of on a set, can't be visible in the shot(s) and can't set them up so the crew trips over them or they impede camera movement. But, everything has to be lit so it registers on camera, shadows have to be controlled ( unless they're intentional)....it never ends.

Editing? I don't even know where to start! LOL! But it's not always as easy as it seems. Especially when it comes to continuity, continuity is a bitch! ( I spot issues with that all the time.)

Top GunAt the end, a victorious Maverick is hoisted on the shoulders of the guys. As he goes up, he isn't wearing sunglasses. His head goes out of the shot, and when he comes down, he's wearing a pair.

Well then, I guess you would appreciate them more. lol  I know editing is hard, but I don't understand how they can judge that without seeing what was edited. I've seen films that had editing so horrible, even I noticed. ImageThe continuity thing is something I pay attention to.

But Hairstyle? Come on! Image

My son works in film.  There is a lot of technical stuff involved in producing film/TV.   I also hate most reality stuff, too. I bemoan the lack of tight scripts and good acting.  Of course I am typing this while I am watching George Clooney's old girlfriend on Dancing With the Stars.

I didn't agree with most of the winners, but I think they only evaluate isolated clips.  I am a TV-phile.   I never know what the people who don't watch TV are doing, but I do my part.   LOL!!!!!

I've seen a couple of westerns where there were jet contrails crossing the sky and one old western where you could quite clearly see a highway in one of the panorama shots of the desert.
