I am dedicating this song to all the political candidates that we have watched for this past campaign who must all be half-fuckin' crazy by now.
The Ramones were not a happy family. I guess we are not a happy family either though we are still stuck with each other. At least for now right?
Anyway, I dedicate this song not to us but to them - the people we are about to trust to rule over us and the other people who bravely stepped forward and tried to stop them with their own vision of how to rule over us.
It's almost over. The only question now is: Why the fuck did it start so early?

Castinets were better than i have ever seen them- and i have seen them about six times.
Michael Franti was also really good. a genuine hiphop hero who has gone DJ/Rocksteady. he has an Obama song, which brought down the house. the vibe was more upbeat than any concert i have ever been to. a liberal love fest. seriously.
Polysics were totally rad. lead singer- when we asked him for an encore, he said "fuck off" in broken english, and then did two more songs. he was drenched in sweat from head to knee by the end of the show. kindof a cross between DEVO, XTC, and YMO. another band that opened for them was also good. i think they were called Jaguar Love or something. but i also remember they were on Matador.
so, three good shows in three days. tonight, i head off to the empty bottle to buy four tickes for the next five days.
YAHOO! i am so happy happy going out and doing it!

Incredible.
This video is his Chicago audition. The 3 judges were not excited about a ventriloquist. They quickly changed their mind.
Prepare yourself for a ventriloquist that sings thru his dummies. It's quite amazing.
By the way, he now headlines in Vegas to the tune of 150 million on a 5 year contract I believe.
If you like it, check out the other vids from his appearances on the show and someone actually video cammed his whole vegas show and posted it in 10 sequential vids.

Just bought a guitar last night! Yay!!
I started playing when I was 10 and did the typical garage band/playing at parties and such thing through my 20's.......
......and then life struck. I got married, started a career, and had kids. It didn't take long before the guitars ended up stored away in a closet. But a few months ago my 8 year old daughter--who has a very strong artistic/creative streak--started bugging me about learning guitar. So I pulled my old acoustic out and tried to start playing again. Problem is, it's in pretty bad shape. So last night I got a low-mid-range (price wise) acoustic that is very nice and should be perfect for me teaching her how to play.
I sat up last night until after midnight playing (softly). So I've got some serious music going through my head! Image

A Different Kind of War

There was a long haired guy who drew a crowd outside
He got them all angry over national pride
He was talking of the war that's on our shore
And how we've never had to fight so hard before
It's a war to fight and a war to win he said
But how do we strike and where to begin?
We want to kill those guilty of the crimes they've made
But they don't live in one city; there's no fortress to invade
This war is psychological and it starts right here
So in my defiance, I will not live in fear
Because fear is their weapon so I won't give in to that
They know that fear turns to rage, and thats just their trap
The way they win is to make us strike back
They want us to launch a dreadful counterattack
The more people that die at the hand of our nation
The more hate it will breed in the next generation
In this kind of war, they're not after our land
They want their children's blood on our vengeful hands
They want to make us act like an angry mob
So we look like a bully that hates their god
Their plan is to hurt us with our own brute force
Like a herd stampeding down a deadly course
If they can get us running with a rage like this
They can lead the free world off the edge of a cliff
And the cliff is to fall for the trap they've sprung
To make us play the role of the vengeful one
They want us to chase them and hunt them down
To kill their people and burn their towns
The few guilty people are happy to die
If they can make us kill a few thousand more besides
Becuase the death of the innocents just fuels the flame
Until the next war starts and its all the same
And the future unfolds for a hundred years
As the terror grows and it breeds more fear
So who will decide the future of our nation?
Will we follow along with their invitation?
The invitation is to trust our hate
To let revenge define our fate
To never see that it's a different war
And we can't fight the same way we fought before
We're not hunted by a tiger, or a lion or a shark, its more
Like FIRE that's the danger and the enemy's a spark
But the trickiest spin that the devil could twist
Was convincing the world that he didn't exist
If you don't believe in evil, then they're just dangerous men
And you'll fight fire with fire, and you'll be just like them
An eye for an eye, time after time
Eye after eye until the whole world is blind
If our enemy is evil, like a virus of the mind
And its moving through the body of all humankind
Then the evil brilliance of this virus which is hate
Is that our natural reaction makes it replicate
We want to shoot at a target thats easy to find
But the enemy is in us - all humankind
We want to kill the invader like we could in the past
But you can't kill a virus with a shotgun blast
This is not a nation that we're up against
If it's good against evil what's our best defense?
The man on the street was drawing a crowd
Some people got angry and voices got loud
The crowd answered back to the sidewalk guy
That we must have revenge for the people that died
But the man kept talking about love and light
As if that were any way to fight the fight
And a scuffle started and they hauled him in
He was convicted of crimes and convicted of sins
And for national safety and religious pride
That sidewalk preacher was crucified

ImageIf you want to be happy the rest of your lifeImage... by Jimmy Soul
I love the tune, but not so fond of the lyrics

If You Wanna Be Happy
Jimmy Soul

If you wanna be happy
For the rest of your life,
Never make a pretty woman your wife,
So from my personal point of view,
Get an ugly girl to marry you.

A pretty woman makes her husband look small
And very often causes his downfall.
As soon as he marries her
Then she starts to do
The things that will break his heart.
But if you make an ugly woman your wife,
You'll be happy for the rest of your life,
An ugly woman cooks her meals on time,
She'll always give you peace of mind.

Don't let your friends say
You have no taste,
Go ahead and marry anyway,
Though her face is ugly,
Her eyes don't match,
Take it from me she's a better catch.

Say man.
Hey baby.
Saw your wife the other day.
Yeah?
Yeah, she's ugly.
Yeah, she's ugly but she sure can cook.
Yeah?. Okay.

Hi Mac
Just wanted to add a great Cole Porter classic over hereImage
This is a scene from a movie that I really really loved!!! It´s called De - Lovely and this song is the best one in the movie. Maybe is one of the bests at all!!! Great melody and Lyrics. I´m not gonna explain anything about the scene... Just gonna say watch this movie!!! *.* Here are the lyrics.

"Strange, dear, but true, dear,
When I'm Close to you dear,
The stars fill the sky,
So in love with you am I.

Even Without you
My arms fold about you.
You know, darling, why,
So in love with you am I.

In love with the night mysterious
The night when you first were there
In love with my joy delirious
When I knew that you could care.

So taunt me and hurt me,
Deceive me, desert me,
I'm yours 'til I die,
So in love,
So in love
So in love with you, my love, am I."

A chance to fire the big guns

'Symphony at the Basin'

By STACEY WOOD - The Dominion Post | Tuesday, 02 December 2008

Picnics, sunshine, cannons and absolutely no stilettos - that is the recipe for Vector Wellington Orchestra's
Summer Symphony concert in the Basin Reserve.

Image

MAKING AN OVERTURE: Conductor Marc Taddei, tenor Richard Greager and dancer Anita Hunziker get in training for the March concert.
- PHIL REID/The Dominion Post

With traditional venue Government House closed for renovations, the orchestra will head across the road
to the Basin Reserve in March for one of the highlights of their calendar.

The Government House event, which seated about 2500, has been a sellout in recent years and organisers hope to fill the
15,000-capacity Basin Reserve.

In a change from previous years, patrons can bring picnics, though Basin Reserve manager Peter Clinton said there would
be restrictions on umbrellas, seats, stilettos and other pointy objects that could damage the cricket pitch.

Tenor Richard Greager said performing in front of a crowd of thousands was a lovely way to spend the evening.
"They're fantastic events - people come to sit in the sun and enjoy themselves."

The Wellington wind could be a problem when performing outdoors and the players would be equipped with pegs and
weights to keep their sheet music from escaping.

The evening's programme will include classic arias and popular hits. Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture will be the grand finale,
complete with 16 cannons.

Bryan "Gunner" Townsend of the Wellington Cannon Society said it was great to be able to put their toys to good use.

The society consists of about 20 "cannon-mad" members, and almost as many guns, which they happily lend
to other orchestras

"It's sort of a hobby that got out of control," Mr Townsend said.

He and conductor Marc Taddei said the hardest part about using cannons in an orchestral performance was making sure
they were fired at the right time.

i am not really interested in technical prowess, either. what i DO find interesting is "emotive quality" and "personality". i would rather spend an hour listening to Captain Beefheart sing than a minute listening to Celine Dion. but i will admit that this is a PERSONAL preference, and that 99% of the US public would disagree.

The 99% you refer too, has no idea how hard it is to play a musical instrument!
Nor how bad a great singer would sound with poor or lackluster band members.
I really first became aware of this fact when seeing The Silver Bullet Band.
The sax player made the show with his antics while not missing a note.
Think how often you are captivated by the music being played before the fat lady sings. It is totally false to believe that anyone could play a instrument. And even more rare where one can play to the higher levels.
The only thing I can play well is a organ.
But that is a sex organ! Image

Ed- don't get plowed under by zeus. Celine Dion is in the top 1% of all pop singers in terms of ability and accuracy. most pop singers don't sing very well. Cher, for example. Madonna, for example.

Condoleezza Rice plays piano for
Queen Elizabeth II

Reuters | Wednesday, 03 December 2008

Outgoing US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has played the piano for
Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace as a
farewell gesture before the end of the Bush administration's term next month.

MUSICAL FAREWELL: US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
played Brahms for the Queen,
accompanied on violin by Louise Miliband, the wife of
Britain's Foreign Secretary David Miliband,
and three London Symphony Orchestra members. - REUTERS

Rice's spokesman Sean McCormack said the top US diplomat played
Brahms and
was accompanied on
violin by Louise Miliband,
the wife of Britain's Foreign Secretary David Miliband, along with three
London Symphony Orchestra members.

An accomplished pianist who ultimately chose foreign policy instead of becoming a
professional musician,
Rice has made several public
music performances as the top US diplomat.

McCormack said the royal recital was in a music room at the palace and the
Queen had presented a recording
of the performance to Rice afterwards.
The musicians practiced for an hour beforehand, he added.

"It was all organised by the British and just a very nice gesture as a farewell gift,"
McCormack said.

Rice is in London on what is expected to be her final British visit before
President-elect Barack Obama takes
office on January 20, 2009. Rice will be
replaced by former first lady and New York Senator Hillary Clinton as secretary of state.

Rice moves on to Brussels Tuesday for a meeting of Nato foreign ministers and is
then set to fly to New Delhi
for meetings with Indian officials after
last week's attacks in Mumbai.

Music critics are just snookering us. They're in the minor leagues of snookerers like film critics and wine critics. (The big league snookerers are lawyers and politicians.) Ever notice the air of snubbery enveloping the film and wine critcs as they snooker you into believing some foreign human interest film or French wine is a "must see" or "must have"? I've seen less snookering in a snooker hall. They're all snookery boogers snookering the suckers who listen to their snokkeries.
Hows that?

Thinking more in depth about the girls and boys that make the noise. I reflect on many songs that while I don't care much for the lyrics, the music more than makes up for it.
For example this one. Listen to the noise makers and tell me they don't make the song!
Knew some diggers back in 65 that put a interest in some of their music. No finer troops ah foot ever took the field.
Had never heard this song before those buggers started singing it. And I had no idea what all the terms ment. This version explains it well. Again, the noise makers get er done.
Dedicated to those I met and had the pleasure to know. And the ones I have met sense. And to Steve Irwin.
Macro!,
My friend, if you feel this veers too far afield, advise and I will not mind the least bit deleting it.

FF,
To be honest with you. I don't care for it on many levels. The number one reason is that it is their national anthem. The number two reason is I'm not drawn to someone that has a worse voice than me.
For me, that is like trying to pass off chicken's having sex, for music.
I spent days looking for this song. Tryed huming it to my wife for help. Even my huming is to bad to identify a song from. But finally the tune came through for her.
I can't put my finger on why I like this song, may not like it tomorrow. But for now, I really like it.

Anyway, the song was also used in a bread commercial and I think, if you've been around a bit, you might recognize it.
I'm going to pick up some things from storage from back in my home town over Christmas. I'm hoping the 45 is in that mess.

I thought our Canadian friends may enjoy this one.
A little history may also add some added reflections.
The top Generals, one from each side, were killed during this battle:

The Battle of the Plains of Abraham, also known as the Battle of Quebec, was a pivotal battle in the French and Indian War, the North American theatre of the Seven Years' War. The confrontation, which began on 12 September 1759, was fought between the British Army and Navy, and the French Army, on a plateau just outside the walls of Quebec City. The battle involved fewer than 10,000 troops between both sides, but proved to be a deciding moment in the conflict between France and Britain over the fate of New France, influencing the later creation of Canada.[3]

Hear the song here:

Bet you do!
Remember a song that came along during a ruff patch or a time of joy.
The following song came along during a ruff patch for me. I was dating a girl I cared for. Then she left me for a mime. I should have known something was amiss when in those tender moments, she would go silent.
After our breakup I tried to get back with her. I told her I was thinking about becoming a comedian to win back her favor. She just laughed at me.

I have pulled a lot of jokes on camping trips. One I never pulled off thoughand wish I had. It would have needed to be a camping trip where no firearms were around though. Now with the current generation, with no awareness of the movie, the time has passed.
Imagine being out in the bush, dark, a small campfire. Out in the bush you hear some movement that is obviously man made, then this song begins to play. Image

There must be some kind of way out of here
Said the joker to the thief
Theres too much confusion
I cant get no relief
Businessman they drink my wine
Plow men dig my earth
None will level on the line
Nobody of it is worth
Hey hey

No reason to get excited
The thief he kindly spoke
There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke but uh
But you and I weve been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
The hours getting late
Hey

Hey

All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Bare-foot servants to, but huh
Outside in the cold distance
A wild cat did growl
Two riders were approachin
And the wind began to howl
Hey
Oh
All along the watchtower
Hear you sing around the watch
Gotta beware gotta beware I will
Yeah
Ooh baby
All along the watchtower

John Lennon
Happy Christmas (War is Over) Lyrics:

So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas

For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so happy Christmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
War is over
If you want it
War is over
Now...

Boyce Avenue does some serious covers of various artists and normally do a pretty good job. The stay pretty much on the original with maybe a twist or two to add some originality to the cover.
They just posted their latest cover of a Green Day song and I'd have to say it's one of, if not, the best covers I've heard. If you are familiar with the original "Time of your Life" song by Green Day, I would urge you to compare this cover. Very, very good.
I normally don't dig cover bands but this one.....I would buy a ticket if they were in my area.

Amazing.. incredible... Streisand? Whitney? Celine, Mariah... who? Leona Lewis was discovered on a a British talent show called the X-Factor. I think most people have heard of her by now. Here's her new single, performed Live on X-Factor.

The song is unbelievably beautiful. If there was ever such a thing as an angel singing, its Leona Lewis. The song is called "Run". I bawled like a baby. It starts off innocent, even humble... but ends with the most chill inspiring, powerful affect. Just.. beautiful.

And NOBODY should have skin like this bitch!! Sheesh!!! Some people really have it all!!! Dayam!

Mac, you seriously can't compare the sheer vocal ability of Sheryl Crowe to Leona Lewis, and I will readily agree that Sheryl Crowe is the more artistic of the two vocalists... but I don't see the any comparison here in raw vocal ability and talent.
Believe me.. I generaly can't stand vocalists that are too "showcasey"... I gotta make an exeption on this performance by Leona Lewis though.
Tracy Chapman ("Fast Car") will leave Sheryl Crowe in the dust everytime as far I'm concerned. I really really love Sheryl Crowe though.. I think she's a tad bit over-rated though. I still own her CD's.

horse manure. the availability of awesome music has never been better. in five minutes, i can hear a 70's funk band from Nigeria, a post-punk band from South Africa, a post-rock band from Australia, or a straight ahead jazz combo from NYC. all of which were completely inaccessable 20 years ago.
in short, today's music is exactly what you make of it. if you want garbage, you can have it.
What presents itself as music is really nothing but noise. True music is inspirational and uplifting.
i have heard at least (5) things in the last month that were released in the last (12) months and were totally uplifting. again, if you want a lift, GO GET IT.

When you think about it, that group was the first rock band to do something musically, which bands are still doing to this day.

The Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton found dead.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Punk guitarist Ron Asheton of The Stooges has been found dead in his Ann Arbor home. He was 60.

City police Sgt. Brad Hill says there were no signs of foul play, and the death appeared to be of natural causes.

Hill says officers discovered Asheton early Tuesday after they were called to his home around midnight by an associate who hadn't heard from him in several days.

Asheton was an original member of The Stooges, the influential protopunk band founded in Ann Arbor in 1967. Asheton's brother, Scott, was the band's drummer.

Asheton's distorted guitar was a hallmark of the Iggy Pop-led group's late-1960s and early-1970s sound. He was named the 29th greatest guitarist of all time in 2003 by Rolling Stone.

Sad to see that Ron Asheton died. When Iggy Pop dies, will anyone know he has? He's always had kind of a deathly look to him.

The truly ironic part of that Jane Whitney interview, Sun Flowers, is the segment on Club Kids featuring Michael Alig who (unlike G.G.) actually ends up commiting a truly gruesome murder.
Check out the movie Party Monster featuring Macaulay Culkin as Alig if G. G. Allin's Hated isn't depraved enough for you.

No thanks Ghengis. I'm not into depravity. My daughter just couldn't believe her college professor showed a documentary of the guy in her anthropology class. So I googled him and saw what he was all about. He's about every parents nightmare!

I think G.G. was more harm to himself than anybody else. He tried for a long time to book a Halloween show where the climax of the evening would be his onstage suicide but the police would shut it down or owners wouldn't book him. I used to have a copy of a letter he sent to serial killer John Wayne Gacy - it was an incoherent diatribe against life which he truly seemed to hate. I couldn't help but pay him the ultimate disrespect and feel sorry for him. For Allin after all of his homicidal talk to be upstaged by some goofball prancey Club Kid is sort of noteworthy.

Out on the wiley, windy moors
Wed roll and fall in green.
You had a temper like my jealousy:
Too hot, too greedy.
How could you leave me,
When I needed to possess you?
I hated you. I loved you, too.

Bad dreams in the night.
They told me I was going to lose the fight,
Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering
Wuthering heights.

Heathcliff, its me--cathy.
Come home. Im so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, its me--cathy.
Come home. Im so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Ooh, it gets dark! it gets lonely,
On the other side from you.
I pine a lot. I find the lot
Falls through without you.
Im coming back, love.
Cruel heathcliff, my one dream,
My only master.

Too long I roam in the night.
Im coming back to his side, to put it right.
Im coming home to wuthering, wuthering,
Wuthering heights,

Heathcliff, its me--cathy.
Come home. Im so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, its me--cathy.
Come home. Im so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Ooh! let me have it.
Let me grab your soul away.
Ooh! let me have it.
Let me grab your soul away.
You know its me--cathy!

Heathcliff, its me--cathy.
Come home. Im so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, its me--cathy.
Come home. Im so cold!
Let me in-a-your window.

Heathcliff, its me--cathy.
Come home. Im so cold!
this song kills me. it shows amazing maturity for a teenager (Kate was either 17 or 18 when she did this). totally unique for it's release date, as well. i still regard this album highly, three decades later.

This is copied from Jabs list.
Kabeeb had already nuked the CEII site and I grabbed Jabs in case she deleted that too.

Naturally with almost 1,000 posts I didn't take the time to check which links were still live. Remember a few big labels pulled content from Youtube in a deal dispute recently.

Go for whatever you feel's best bro. I was just aiming for damage limitation.
