Naturally most of us think hard-boiled eggs should be boiled, but a better way to get that perfect hard-"boiled" egg may be to actually bake it, according to Alton Brown. You can bake dozens of creamier eggs at once.

Tanya at the Greetings from the Asylum blog says that the baked eggs are also less sulfurous or smelly, and reproduces Alton Brown's recipe posted on Food.com.

Essentially, you're baking the eggs at 325 degrees for 30 minutes, with the eggs placed parallel to the bars on the racks as shown above.

This would be great to do for a large party or just if you love eating a lot of eggs.

Hard Cooked Eggs in the Oven (Baked Eggs)

[*]2 -4 dozen raw eggs [*]ice [*]water

Position the oven racks in the center of the oven.

Place the eggs on the racks.

Place a baking sheet pan in the bottom of the oven (just in case an egg breaks).

Set the oven to 325F, and bake for 30 minutes

When the eggs are done, fill a large bowl with ice water and move the eggs into the bowl

Peel the eggs as soon as they're cool enough to handle, then return them to the ice water to thoroughly chill.

Not sure how energy-efficient that is.

I only do it when I am already using the oven and a rack is free

Nope. Had one chip a small piece off one, but I may have bonked it when I was checking on the Angel Food Cake on the bottom rack

That's in a microwave.
Escargots explode in a microwave, too.
Found that out the hard way. Flying garlic/parsley butter makes one hell of a mess.

One night, MANY moons ago, we were at a friend's ~ he, and a few others [NOT ME ~ Image], decided to do "science experiments" on how long it takes to make fruit explode in a microwave ~ it was one of those "seemed like a good idea at the time" moments ~ we learned that oranges, bananas, and grapefruit make one hell of a mess too, oskar ~

P.S. I forgot to mention that substantial amounts of various alcohol "refreshments" were consumed before the idea for "science experiments" arose ~ Image

NEVER do "scientific experiments" while sober.
You might get injured.

Who knew?

325 for 30 minutes...does it matter what size eggs they are?

I always get extra large eggs, so with smaller eggs, you might want to check one a little earlier.
