I get so angry sometimes. While we were in Alabama, daughter made a very good banana pudding. So, I decided to make one today.
Why in the WORLD are Nilla vanilla wafers (and dozens of other products) so different in the two countries? Same name that I am sure is licensed by Nabisco of the US. VERY different taste and texture. I compared ingredients with what I bought here to the list online for the US product.
US Nabisco product:
Ingredients: UNBLEACHED ENRICHED FLOUR (WHEAT FLOUR, NIACIN, REDUCED IRON, THIAMINE MONONITRATE [VITAMIN B1], RIBOFLAVIN [VITAMIN B2], FOLIC ACID), SUGAR, SOYBEAN OIL, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED COTTONSEED OIL, WHEY (FROM MILK), EGGS, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, SALT, LEAVENING (BAKING SODA AND/OR CALCIUM PHOSPHATE), EMULSIFIERS (MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES, SOY LECITHIN). CONTAINS: WHEAT, MILK, EGG, SOY.
Mr. Christie's Canada(couldn't even find a list online. Typed this from the box)
Enriched wheat flour, sugar, soybean oil and hydrogenated cottonseed oil with TBHQ and citric acid, glucose-fructose, modified milk ingredient, salt, sodium bicarbonate, monoglycerides, ammonium bicarbonate, soya lecithin, monocalcium phosphate, acetylated tataric acid, esters of mono and diglycerides, artificial flavor, canola oil, coconut oil #ILB5017
Strange, eh? I find the Canadian version pretty tasteless and hard as a rock.
Bottom line, my banana pudding wasn't as good as hers and I used her recipe!
I will be sending them both emails. (Mr. Christie's is owned by Kraft.....grrrr)
