I used to make a bastardized version of this. It was round steak, cubed and sauteed in butter with garlic, put in a pot with water, mushroom soup, dry onion soup, baked for an hour and eaten over noodles or rice. No wine. It was mega tender.

Wouldn't that be Cajun?
Besides, no wine, no French.
